تتلی Titli (The Butterfly)

भावार्थ: तितलियाँ पंख खोलकर उड़ती हैं, इस फूल से उड़कर उस फूल पर जा बैठती हैं। उनके नाज़ुक-नाज़ुक, ख़ुशनुमा पंखों पर तरह-तरह के नक़्श-व-निगार (डिज़ाइन) और बूटे (फूल-पत्ती के निशान) बने होते हैं। पंख जोड़कर बैठने का उनका अपना ही अंदाज़ है - जिस फूल पर बैठती हैं उसका रस लेकर फिर उड़ जाती हैं, मानो हवा में उड़ती हुई रंग-बिरंगी पत्तियाँ हों, जिनके पंखों से मानो रंग बिखर रहे हों।

Meaning: butterflies fly with wings spread open, flying from one flower to perch on another. Their delicate, lovely wings carry all kinds of patterns and floral motifs. They have their own manner of sitting with wings folded together - drinking the nectar of whichever flower they settle on before flying off again, like colourful petals drifting on the breeze, colour seeming to scatter from their wings.

भावार्थ: तितलियों में बहुत सारे रंग आपस में मिले हुए हैं, मानो उनके पंख ही खिले हुए बाग़-बग़ीचे हों। हर एक पंख पर कई रंग होते हैं, हर पंख जैसे अपना एक छोटा-सा चमन (बाग़) हो। हर निशान (ख़ाल) मानो एक नगीना (रत्न) हो, कहीं सोने-चाँदी जैसा तो कहीं मेहीन (झिलमिलाता) रंग। ज़रा क़ुदरत का करिश्मा देखो कि जैसे बाग़ में फूल खिलते हैं, वैसे ही तितलियों के बदन पर मानो गुलदस्ते सजे हों। और जो पंख नक़्श-व-निगार से बिल्कुल ख़ाली (सादा) भी हैं, वे भी अपनी सादगी में दिल को लुभाने वाले हैं।

Meaning: many colours mingle together on the butterflies, as if their wings were a garden in full bloom. Each wing carries several colours, every wing like its own little garden. Every mark is like a jewel - sometimes gold or silver, sometimes a fine shimmering shade. See nature's wonder: just as flowers bloom in a garden, bouquets seem to bloom on the butterflies' bodies. And even the wings bare of any pattern are, in their very plainness, charming to the heart.

भावार्थ: किसी तितली का रंग गहरा ज़र्द (पीला) है, इतना गहरा कि वह सुनहरा लगता है। किसी के पंख सफ़ेद हैं, जैसे चाँदी के साफ़-सुथरे पत्थर हों। मोर जैसा नीला-हरा (ताऊसी), चंदन जैसा हल्का, धानी (हल्का हरा), गुलाबी, कासनी (बैंगनी-सा), सियाह (काला), आबी (नीला), पीला, ऊदा (बैंगनी), ज़मुर्रदी (पन्ना जैसा हरा) और लाल - हर रंग के पंख बिना किसी ख़ास निशान (बे-ख़त-ओ-ख़ाल) के भी सुंदर लगते हैं। शायर आख़िर में कहते हैं: तितली की उड़ान भी एक हुस्न (सुंदरता) है और एक फबन (शोभा) भी, और उसकी रंगत भी हुस्न है, चाहे वह रंगत सादा-सी ही क्यों न हो।

Meaning: one butterfly's colour is a deep yellow, so deep it looks golden. Another has white wings, like clean polished silver stones. Peacock-blue, sandalwood, pale green, pink, violet, black, water-blue, yellow, purple, emerald-green, and red - wings of every colour look beautiful even without any special markings. The poet closes: a butterfly's flight is itself a beauty and an adornment, and its colouring too is a beauty, even when that colouring is plain and simple.
