ایک مکڑا اور ایک مکھی Ek Makra aur Ek Makkhi (A Spider and a Fly)

भावार्थ: एक दिन मकड़ा किसी मक्खी से कहने लगा - रोज़ तुम्हारा गुज़र इसी राह से होता है, मगर मेरी कुटिया की क़िस्मत कभी नहीं जागी - तुमने भूले से भी यहाँ पाँव नहीं रखा। ग़ैरों से न मिलो तो ठीक है, पर अपनों से यूँ दूर-दूर रहना अच्छा नहीं। आओ, मेरे घर आना मेरी इज़्ज़त है - वह सामने सीढ़ी है, अगर तुम्हें आना मंज़ूर हो। मक्खी ने मकड़े की यह बात सुनी तो बोली - हज़रत! यह धोका किसी और नादान (मूर्ख) को दिखाइएगा, मुझे नहीं।

Meaning: one day the spider began saying to a fly - every day your path passes this way, yet my hut's fortune never woke - you never once, even by mistake, set foot here. It's fine not to meet strangers, but one shouldn't stay so distant from acquaintances. Come, it would be my honour if you entered my home - there is the staircase right in front, if you're willing to come. Hearing the spider's words, the fly replied - Sir! Show this trick to some other fool, not to me.

भावार्थ: इस जाल में कोई मक्खी कभी आने वाली नहीं है - जो भी आपकी सीढ़ी पर चढ़ा, वह फिर कभी नीचे नहीं उतरा। मकड़े ने (दिल में) कहा - वाह! यह मुझे फ़रेबी (धोखेबाज़) समझती है! तुम जैसा कोई नादान (मूर्ख) इस ज़माने में नहीं होगा (यानी मकड़ा उसे मन ही मन नादान समझने लगा)।

Meaning: no fly will ever come into this trap - whoever climbed your staircase never came back down again. The spider said - well! She thinks me a fraud! There will be no fool in this world like you (the spider mockingly dismisses her suspicion in his mind).

भावार्थ: मुझे तुम्हारा ख़याल था वरना, तुम पता नहीं कहाँ से उड़ती हुई आई हो। मेरे घर में तुम्हें दिखाने के लिए कई चीज़ें हैं - लटके हुए दरवाज़ों पर बारीक परदे हैं, मेहमानों के आराम के लिए नरम पछौने (गद्दे) तैयार हैं। मक्खी ने कहा - ख़ैर! यह सब ठीक है, लेकिन इसमें मेरा अपना क्या फ़ायदा? मकड़े ने कहा - ठहर जाओ मेरे घर में, इसमें बुरा क्या है? बाहर से तो यह कुटिया छोटी सी दिखती है, पर मैंने दीवारों को आईनों से सजाया है - यह सामान हर किसी को नसीब नहीं होता। मक्खी बोली - मैं आपके घर आऊँ, यह उम्मीद मत रखना।

Meaning: I was thinking of your comfort, otherwise who knows from where you came flying. There are many things in this house to show you - fine curtains hang at the doorways, soft cushions are ready for guests' comfort. The fly said - well, all that's fine, but what benefit is that to me? The spider said - stay in my house, what's wrong with that? From outside this hut looks small, but I've decorated the walls with mirrors - not everyone gets to have such things. The fly said - don't hope that I will come to your house.

भावार्थ: इन नरम बिछौनों से ख़ुदा मुझे बचाए - जो कोई इन पर सो जाए, वह फिर उठ नहीं सकता (यानी वह जान गई कि यह जाल है)। मकड़े ने उसकी बात सुनकर मन ही मन कहा - इस बदनसीब को किस तरह फँसाऊँ, यह तो बड़ी सयानी है।

Meaning: God save me from these soft cushions - whoever falls asleep on them can never get up again (the fly sees through the trap). Hearing her reply, the spider said to himself - how shall I trap this wretch, she is far too clever.

भावार्थ: देखो, दुनिया में जो ख़ुशामद का ग़ुलाम है (यानी जिसे ख़ुशामद पसंद है), उसके सैकड़ों काम ख़ुशामद से निकल जाते हैं। यह सोचकर मकड़े ने उस बड़ी बी (मक्खी) से कहा - अल्लाह ने आपको बहुत बड़ा रुतबा बख़्शा है। जिसने भी कभी एक नज़र आपको देखा, उसे आपकी सूरत से मुहब्बत हो जाती है। अल्लाह ने आपके सर को कलग़ी से सजाया है, आपकी आँखें बेरे के चमकते हुए क़ीमती पत्थरों जैसी हैं। फिर उड़ते हुए आपका यह गाना तो क़यामत है - यह हुस्न, यह पोशाक, यह ख़ूबी, यह सफ़ाई! मक्खी बोली - मुझे आपसे कोई खटका (डर) नहीं है (यानी वह अब बेफ़िक्र हो गई)। मक्खी जब यह ख़ुशामद सुनकर पिघल गई (यानी घमंड में आ गई), तो उसने सोचा - सच यह है कि किसी का दिल तोड़ना अच्छी बात नहीं, मैं इनकार करने की आदत को बुरा समझती हूँ। जैसे ही वह पास आई, मकड़े ने उछलकर उसे पकड़ लिया - यह बात फिर हमेशा के लिए अपनी जगह से उड़ गई (यानी मक्खी फिर कभी अपनी जगह वापस न उड़ सकी)।

Meaning: see, whoever in this world is fond of flattery gets a hundred things done through flattery. Thinking this, the spider said to the fly, that fine lady - God has granted you a very great rank. Whoever once glances at you falls in love with your face. God has adorned your head with a crest, your eyes are like a jeweller's shining gems. And then, as you fly, this song of yours is a wonder - such beauty, such clothing, such excellence, such elegance! The fly said - I feel no fear of you now (she has let her guard down). When the fly heard this flattery, she melted (grew vain) and thought - the truth is, it isn't right to break someone's heart; I consider the habit of refusing to be a bad one. As soon as she came close, the spider leapt and caught her - and she never flew back to her own place again.
