قسمت کا کھیل Qismat ka Khel (The Game of Fate)

किसी ज़माने में एक बादशाह के दो बेटे थे - बड़े का नाम अब्बास और छोटे का नाम वक़ास था। दोनों शहज़ादों का मिज़ाज और सोच एक-दूसरे से बिल्कुल अलग थी। एक दिन बादशाह ने दोनों बेटों को बुलाकर पूछा - 'बताओ, इंसान बड़ा आदमी कैसे बनता है؟' बड़े शहज़ादे अब्बास ने जवाब दिया - 'हुज़ूर... इंसान बड़ा आदमी दौलत से बनता है।' इस पर छोटे शहज़ादे वक़ास ने कहा - 'अब्बा जान... इंसान बड़ा आदमी मुक़द्दर (क़िस्मत) से बनता है।'

Once there was a king with two sons - the elder named Abbas and the younger named Waqas. The two princes had very different temperaments and ways of thinking. One day the king summoned both sons and asked - 'Tell me, how does a man become great?' The elder prince Abbas answered - 'Your Majesty... a man becomes great through wealth.' At this the younger prince Waqas said - 'Father... a man becomes great through destiny (fate).'

बादशाह ने बड़े बेटे अब्बास को एक बड़ी रक़म देते हुए कहा - 'अच्छा, तुम इस रक़म से ख़ुद को बड़ा आदमी बनाकर दिखाओ।' दोनों शहज़ादे रुख़सत हुए। उस मुल्क में एक ग़रीब मछियारा रहता था। शहज़ादे ने उस मछियारे को वह रक़म दे दी। रक़म देखकर मछियारा बहुत ख़ुश हुआ - उसने कुछ रक़म एक मटके में छिपा दी और बाक़ी से बाज़ार जाकर एक चादर और गोश्त ख़रीदा, बचे हुए पैसे चादर के एक कोने में बाँध लिए। वहीं एक चील ने गोश्त बँधी हुई चादर देखी और झपट्टा मारकर उसे उड़ा ले गई।

The king gave a large sum of money to his elder son Abbas and said - 'Very well, go and prove yourself a great man with this money.' Both princes took their leave. In that kingdom lived a poor fisherman. The prince gave the fisherman this money. Seeing the large sum, the fisherman was overjoyed - he hid some of the money in a pot and with the rest went to the market and bought a sheet and some meat, tying the leftover money in a corner of the sheet. There, a kite spotted the meat tied up in the sheet, swooped down, and flew off with it.

मछियारे की बीवी ने भी अपनी बचाई हुई थोड़ी-सी रक़म अपने शौहर को दे दी थी, जो उसी चादर के साथ उड़ गई। इस तरह मछियारा एक बार फिर ग़रीब हो गया। कुछ दिनों बाद दोनों शहज़ादे उसके पास दुबारा आए और उसे उदास व परेशान देखकर हाल पूछा। मछियारे ने बताया कि दी हुई रक़म उसके हाथ से निकल गई और वह फिर बर्बाद हो गया है। बड़े शहज़ादे ने हैरानी से पूछा - 'मगर कैसे؟' मछियारे ने उन्हें सारा क़िस्सा सुना दिया।

The fisherman's wife too had given her husband the small savings she had put aside, which also flew off with the sheet. In this way the fisherman became poor once again. A few days later both princes came back to see him, and finding him sad and troubled, asked what had happened. The fisherman told them that the money given to him had slipped away and he was ruined again. The elder prince asked in surprise - 'But how?' The fisherman told them the whole story.

अब छोटे शहज़ादे यानी वक़ास ने मछियारे को तसल्ली दी और कहा - 'फ़िक्र न करो, अब मैं तुम्हारी मदद करूँगा।' उन्होंने मछियारे को सिर्फ़ एक रुपया दिया, लेकिन मछियारे ने वह रुपया एक तरफ़ फेंक दिया, क्योंकि उतनी मामूली रक़म से उसकी हालत सुधरने वाली नहीं थी। उसी शाम मछियारे का एक वाक़िफ़ (जान-पहचान वाला) मछियारा दोस्त आया और कहने लगा - 'मेरा जाल फट गया है, अगर तुम कुछ पैसे दो तो मैं उसकी मरम्मत करवा लूँ, और आज जितनी भी मछलियाँ पकड़ूँगा, उनमें से आधी तुम्हें दे दूँगा।'

Now the younger prince, Waqas, consoled the fisherman and said - 'Don't worry, I will help you now.' He gave the fisherman just one rupee, but the fisherman flung the rupee aside, since such a small sum would not fix his situation. That very evening, an acquaintance of the fisherman - a fellow fisherman - came by and said - 'My net has torn; if you give me a little money I can get it repaired, and whatever fish I catch today, I will give you half of them.'

मछियारे ने वही एक रुपया दोस्त को दे दिया। अगले दिन दोस्त ने दरिया में जाल डाला, बहुत देर इंतज़ार के बाद जाल में सिर्फ़ दो मछलियाँ फँसीं। दोस्त वापस घर आया और वादे के मुताबिक़ एक मछली अपने पास रखकर दूसरी मछली उस मछियारे को दे दी, जिसने उसे एक रुपया दिया था। मछियारे की बीवी उस मछली को काटने लगी - जब मछली का पेट चीरा गया तो उसके अंदर से एक असली, बेशक़ीमती हीरे की अँगूठी निकली।

The fisherman gave that same one rupee to his friend. The next day the friend cast his net in the river, and after a long wait only two fish were caught in it. The friend came home and, keeping one fish for himself as agreed, gave the second fish to the fisherman who had given him the rupee. The fisherman's wife began to cut the fish - when its belly was opened, a genuine, priceless diamond ring came out from inside it.

मछियारा और उसकी बीवी अँगूठी पाकर बहुत ख़ुश हुए। वह अँगूठी बेचने के लिए बाज़ार जा रहा था कि रास्ते में उसे दरख़्त की शाख़ों में वही चादर उलझी हुई नज़र आई, जिसे चील उड़ा ले गई थी। यह देखकर वह और भी ख़ुश हुआ। बाज़ार में उसने वह बेशक़ीमती जवाहर वाली अँगूठी एक जौहरी को बेच दी और बदले में उसे बहुत बड़ी रक़म मिली। आज वह ग़रीब मछियारा हद दर्जे का अमीर आदमी बन गया - उसने अपने लिए एक बहुत बड़ी हवेली बनवाई और शान-ओ-शौकत से रहने लगा। हवेली में कई नौकर-चाकर रखे और मछलियों की बड़ी तिजारत (व्यापार) भी शुरू कर दी।

The fisherman and his wife were overjoyed at finding the ring. As he was heading to the market to sell it, he spotted on the way, caught in the branches of a tree, the very same sheet the kite had carried off earlier. Seeing this made him happier still. At the market he sold the priceless jewelled ring to a jeweller and received a very large sum of money in return. That poor fisherman had now become an extremely wealthy man - he built himself a grand mansion and began living in great style. He kept many servants in the mansion and also started a large fish-trading business.

कुछ अरसे बाद दोनों शहज़ादे एक बार फिर उस ग़रीब मछियारे की झोंपड़ी की तरफ़ गए, मगर अब वहाँ एक शानदार हवेली मौजूद थी। मछियारे ने शहज़ादों का इस्तक़बाल किया। शहज़ादा वक़ास मछियारे की शान-ओ-शौकत देखकर हैरान भी हुआ और ख़ुश भी। अब बड़े शहज़ादे अब्बास को इस बात का पूरा यक़ीन हो गया कि आदमी बड़ा सिर्फ़ दौलत से नहीं बनता, बल्कि आदमी के मुक़द्दर (क़िस्मत) का भी उसमें बड़ा दख़ल होता है।

Some time later, both princes once again set out toward that poor fisherman's hut, but now a grand mansion stood there instead. The fisherman welcomed the princes. Prince Waqas was both astonished and pleased to see the fisherman's grandeur and prosperity. Now the elder prince, Abbas, became fully convinced that a man does not become great through wealth alone - a man's destiny (fate) also plays a great part in it.
