خوشی کا راز Khushi ka Raaz (The Secret of Happiness)

कॉकरोच को अक्सर एक गंदा कीड़ा समझा जाता है। एक बार सारे कॉकरोच एक जगह जमा हुए और शिकायत करने लगे कि दूसरे जानवरों के बच्चे तो पैदा होते ही तेज़ दौड़ने या उड़ने लगते हैं, मगर उन्हें कोई जानवर न परिंदा मानता है और न इज़्ज़त देता है। उन्होंने अपनी इज़्ज़त बढ़ाने का कोई तरीक़ा ढूँढने के लिए एक कॉन्फ़्रेंस (सभा) बुलाई, जिसमें सभी जानवर शामिल किए गए।

The cockroach is usually thought of as a dirty insect. Once all the cockroaches gathered together and complained that other animals' young ones start running or flying fast as soon as they are born, but no animal or bird respects them or considers them one of their own. So they called a conference to find some way of increasing their dignity, and invited every animal to attend.

जब सब जानवर जमा हो गए तो एक बूढ़े कॉकरोच ने खड़े होकर कहा कि सबको मालूम है वे यहाँ किसलिए बुलाए गए हैं - कोई ऐसी तदबीर सोची जाए जिससे उनकी इज़्ज़त बढ़े। तभी सबसे छोटे कॉकरोच ने उठकर एक तरकीब सुझाई - अगर वे अपनी एक लड़की की शादी किसी जानवर से कर दें, तो उस जानवर से रिश्तेदारी होने की वजह से वे बाक़ी सब जानवरों में भी शामिल हो जाएँगे। सबको यह तजवीज़ बहुत पसंद आई और सबसे ख़ूबसूरत लड़की तलाश करके उसकी शादी तय करने का फ़ैसला हुआ।

Once all the animals had gathered, an old cockroach stood up and said everyone already knew why they had been called here - to think of some way to raise their dignity. Then the smallest cockroach stood up and suggested an idea - if they married off one of their daughters to some animal, then through that relationship they would become connected to all the other animals too. Everyone loved this idea, and they decided to find the most beautiful cockroach girl and arrange her marriage.

एक चूहा आराम कर रहा था कि कॉकरोच का एक गिरोह उसके पास पहुँचा और अपनी तकलीफ़ सुनाई। कॉकरोच ने कहा कि वे परिंदे नहीं मानते, इसलिए चाहते हैं कि चूहा उनकी लड़की से शादी करे और उनसे रिश्तेदार बन जाए। चूहा हैरान होकर बहुत देर सोचता रहा और आख़िर बोला कि उसे ख़ुद किसी न किसी से डर लगता रहता है - उसे सबसे ज़्यादा डर साँप से है, जो कभी भी उसे खा सकता है। इसलिए वह पहले साँप से इजाज़त लिए बिना यह रिश्ता नहीं जोड़ सकता, और उन्हें साँप के पास भेज दिया।

A mouse was resting when a group of cockroaches came to him and told him their trouble - that no one considered them animals or birds, so they wanted the mouse to marry their daughter and become their relative. The mouse thought hard for a long time in surprise, then said that he himself always lived in fear of someone - most of all the snake, who could eat him anytime. So he could not agree to this without first taking the snake's permission, and sent the cockroaches on to the snake instead.

कॉकरोच साँप के पास पहुँचे और पूरी कहानी सुनाई। साँप ने भी बहुत ग़ौर से सुनकर कहा कि वह ख़ुद जान से ज़्यादा नेवले से डरता है, जो कभी भी उसे मार सकता है। इसलिए इस बारे में फ़ैसला नेवले से पूछे बिना नहीं हो सकता, और उसने भी उन्हें आगे नेवले के पास भेज दिया।

The cockroaches reached the snake and told him the whole story. The snake also listened carefully and said that he himself feared the mongoose more than anything, since the mongoose could kill him at any moment. So no decision could be made about this without asking the mongoose, and he too sent them onward to the mongoose.

कॉकरोच नेवले के पास गए। नेवले ने कहा कि वह ख़ुद हर वक़्त डरता है कि कब कोई कुत्ता उसे मार डाले, इसलिए वह अपनी ज़िंदगी बचाता फिरता है - अपने बारे में कोई फ़ैसला वह कुत्ते से पूछे बिना नहीं कर सकता। कॉकरोच फिर कुत्ते की तलाश में निकले, मगर रास्ते में एक लोमड़ी से मुलाक़ात हो गई जो घबराई हुई इधर-उधर देख रही थी। पूछने पर लोमड़ी ने बताया कि उसे मार डालने वाले शिकारी कुत्ते उसके पीछे पड़े हैं और वह अपनी जान बचाकर भाग रही है, इसलिए उसके पास कॉकरोच की बात सुनने का वक़्त नहीं है।

The cockroaches went to the mongoose. He said he himself lived in constant fear that some dog might kill him, so he spent his life fleeing to save himself - he could not decide anything without asking the dog first. The cockroaches then set off to find the dog, but on the way they met a fox who was anxiously looking around. When asked, the fox explained that hunting dogs bent on killing her were chasing her and she was running for her life, so she had no time to listen to the cockroaches' request.

कॉकरोच आख़िरकार एक कुत्ते को ढूँढ निकाले। कुत्ते ने कहा कि उसकी वफ़ादारी का किसी ने कोई बदला नहीं दिया, और उसका दुश्मन कोई जानवर नहीं बल्कि इंसान है, जिससे उसे भी कोई मदद नहीं मिल सकती। कुत्ते ने कहा कि वे किसी आदमी के पास जाएँ, वही उनके लिए कुछ करेगा। कॉकरोच आदमी की तलाश में निकल पड़े।

The cockroaches finally found a dog. The dog said that no one had ever repaid his loyalty, and that his real enemy was not an animal but man - from whom even the dog could get no help. The dog told them to go to a man instead, who might do something for them. So the cockroaches set off to search for a man.

आख़िरकार एक झोंपड़े में कॉकरोच को एक आदमी मिला जो एक चटाई पर उदास बैठा था, उसका एक पैर ज़ंजीर से बँधा हुआ था और वह हर एक क़दम पर बुरी तरह घबराया हुआ था। कॉकरोच ने उसे भी पूरी कहानी सुनाई। आदमी ने कहा कि उसे मालूम नहीं कि कॉकरोच की तकलीफ़ उसकी अपनी तकलीफ़ से भी बड़ी है क्या, क्योंकि वह सबसे ज़्यादा तंग हाल में है - उसने अपना घर क़र्ज़ के बदले गिरवी रख दिया है और अब वह क़ैद और मजबूर है। उसने कहा कि वह ख़ुद जानवरों से भी परेशान है और कॉकरोच की कोई मदद नहीं कर सकता।

At last, in a hut, the cockroaches found a man sitting sadly on a mat, with one leg chained, looking frightened at every moment. The cockroaches told him their whole story too. The man said he did not know whether the cockroach's troubles were even bigger than his own, because he himself was in the worst state - he had mortgaged his house against a debt and was now imprisoned and helpless. He said he himself was troubled even by animals, and could not help the cockroach at all.

कॉकरोच बहुत ख़ुश होकर वापस अपने घर लौटे और अपने साथियों के साथ एक दूसरी सभा बुलाई। उन्होंने कहा कि उन्होंने हर जानवर को देखा - कोई भी जानवर या आदमी किसी न किसी से नहीं डरता, हम सबसे ही नहीं डरता है। एक छोटा-सा कीड़ा होने के बावजूद हमारी भी अपनी अहमियत है, इसलिए हमें कभी भी ख़ुद पर शर्मिंदा नहीं होना चाहिए। जैसे हम देखते हैं कि हमारी अपनी अहमियत भी छोटे-लेकिन-अहम है, वैसे ही एक छोटी-सी चीज़ की भी अपनी जगह अहमियत होती है - इसलिए हमें इस कीड़े होने के हाल में ही ख़ुश रहना चाहिए। सब कॉकरोच ज़ोर-दार तालियाँ बजाते हुए और ख़ुश होकर अपने घर चले गए।

The cockroaches returned home very happy and called a second conference with their fellow cockroaches. They said that after seeing every animal, they realised no animal or man is free of fear of someone else - none of them is feared by everyone. Even though we are a small insect, we too have our own importance, so we should never feel ashamed of ourselves. Just as our own importance is small-but-real, every small thing has its own place and importance too - so we should stay happy just as we are, being this insect. All the cockroaches clapped loudly and went home happily, content at last.
