گھوڑے اور ہرن کی کہانی Ghore aur Haran ki Kahani (The Story of the Horse and the Deer)

हज़ारों साल पुरानी बात है। जंगल में एक घोड़े और एक हरन में बड़ी गहरी दोस्ती थी। एक दिन किसी बात पर दोनों में झगड़ा हो गया और मार-पीट की नौबत आ गई। हरन ने बलपूर्वक घोड़े को ज़ोर से काट लिया और फिर मौक़ा पाकर भाग निकला। घोड़े को इतनी गहरी चोट लगी कि वह उस वक़्त कुछ न कर सका और सिर्फ़ मन मसोसकर रह गया।

This is an ancient tale, thousands of years old. In the forest, a horse and a deer were very close friends. One day they quarrelled over something and it turned into a scuffle. The deer bit the horse hard and then ran off. The horse was hurt so badly that he could not do anything about it at that moment and was left seething with anger.

घोड़े को बहुत ग़ुस्सा आया। उसने सोचा, हरन से बदला ज़रूर लेना है - लेकिन बदला लूँ तो कैसे? बहुत दिनों तक वह जंगल में मारा-मारा फिरता रहा। एक दिन उसे एक आदमी नज़र आया जो हाथ में शिकार का सामान लिए किसी की तलाश में घूम रहा था। घोड़े ने उससे पूछा - भाई आदमी, तुम अकेले जंगल में क्या कर रहे हो? आदमी ने जवाब दिया - मैं शिकारी हूँ और शिकार की तलाश में हूँ।

The horse grew very angry. He decided he must take revenge on the deer - but how? For many days he wandered aimlessly through the jungle. One day he spotted a man carrying hunting gear, searching for something. The horse asked him, 'Friend, what are you doing alone in this jungle?' The man replied, 'I am a hunter, and I am searching for prey.'

घोड़े ने कहा - अगर मैं तुम्हें कोई शिकार दिखा दूँ, तो क्या तुम उसे मार दोगे? शिकारी ने कहा - मारने को तो मार दूँगा, लेकिन तुम बताओ तो सही कि मैं उसके पीछे कैसे दौड़ सकता हूँ। अगर तुम मेरी मदद करो तो। घोड़े ने पूछा - मैं तैयार हूँ, बताओ मैं तुम्हारी क्या मदद करूँ? शिकारी ने कहा - मुझे अपनी पीठ पर बिठा लो और वहाँ ले चलो जहाँ वह हरन रहता है।

The horse said, 'If I show you some prey, will you kill it?' The hunter said, 'I would certainly kill it, but tell me how I could run after it - unless you help me.' The horse said, 'I am ready - tell me what help you need from me.' The hunter said, 'Sit me on your back and take me to where that deer lives.'

घोड़े ने अपनी शिकारी के पीछे शिकार पर बदला लेने के लिए एक बात न सुनी कि इसमें उसे कुछ तकलीफ़ न हो - उसने पूछा, लगाम से क्या होगा? घोड़े ने पूछा - लगाम से क्या होगा? शिकारी ने कहा - लगाम से फ़ायदा यह होगा कि जिस तरफ़ हरन नज़र आएगा, मैं उसी तरफ़ लगाम मोड़ दूँगा, तुम उधर चल पड़ना। फिर अपने तीर का निशाना बनाऊँगा। घोड़े ने हर क़ीमत पर हरन से बदला लेना चाहा - उसने कहा, अच्छी बात है, तुम मेरे मुँह में लगाम डाल दो।

So determined was the horse to take revenge on the deer that he did not stop to think whether this would cause him any trouble - he simply asked, 'What will the bridle do?' The hunter explained, 'The advantage of the bridle is that whichever way the deer appears, I will turn the bridle that way, and you will go in that direction - then I will take aim with my arrow.' The horse wanted revenge on the deer at any cost, so he said, 'Very well - put the bridle in my mouth.'

शिकारी ने घोड़े के मुँह में लगाम डाल दी और दोनों हरन की तलाश में निकल पड़े, थोड़ी ही दूर गए थे कि हरन नज़र आ गया। शिकारी ने हरन को देखते ही तीर चलाया, लेकिन तीर हरन के बिल्कुल क़रीब पहुँचकर भी उसे न लगा - हरन तेज़ दौड़ता हुआ बहुत दूर निकल गया। घोड़े ने पीछा किया, दौड़ता रहा, मगर शिकारी की कोशिश कामयाब न हो सकी और हरन बचकर दूर भाग गया।

The hunter put the bridle in the horse's mouth, and the two set out to find the deer. They had gone only a short distance when the deer came into view. The hunter shot an arrow the moment he saw the deer, but even though it came very close, it missed - the deer ran fast and got away. The horse gave chase and kept running, but the hunter's attempt failed and the deer escaped far away.

अब घोड़े ने चैन की साँस ली और शिकारी से कहा - मेरा दुश्मन बच गया, अब तुम मेरे मुँह से लगाम निकाल दो, और मुझे जाने दो। शिकारी ने कहा - लगाम अब तुम्हारे मुँह से नहीं निकलेगी, तुम तो अब मेरे काम के बड़े जानवर हो। घोड़े को बहुत अफ़सोस हुआ। शिकारी ने कहा - मुझे पहले नहीं मालूम था कि तुम इतने काम के हो, अब तो तुम मेरे लिए बहुत फ़ायदेमंद साबित हुए। तब से आज तक उस घोड़े के मुँह से लगाम कभी नहीं निकली - इसीलिए कहते हैं कि आपस में लड़ना-झगड़ना कभी ठीक नहीं होता।

The horse breathed a sigh of relief and said to the hunter, 'My enemy has escaped now, so take the bridle out of my mouth and let me go.' The hunter said, 'The bridle will not come out of your mouth now - you have proven very useful to me.' The horse was filled with deep regret. The hunter said, 'I did not know before how useful you would be - now you have proven very beneficial to me.' From that day to this, the bridle has never come off that horse's mouth - which is why it is said that fighting and quarrelling with one another is never a good thing.
