भावार्थ: ज़ंजीर की सिर्फ़ एक कड़ी अपने आप में पूरी ज़ंजीर नहीं होती, और तस्वीर का सिर्फ़ एक नुक़्ता (बिंदु) अपने आप में पूरी तस्वीर नहीं होता। ठीक इसी तरह असल तक़दीर हमेशा क़ौमों (पूरी क़ौम/समाज) की हुआ करती है - किसी एक अकेले इंसान की निजी क़िस्मत को पूरी क़ौम की तक़दीर नहीं कहा जा सकता। यानी किसी भी बड़े बदलाव या मुक़द्दर के फ़ैसले के लिए पूरे समाज का साथ मिलकर चलना ज़रूरी है, अकेला फ़र्द उसे नहीं बदल सकता।

Meaning: a single link, by itself, is not a chain, and a single dot, by itself, is not a picture. In just the same way, true destiny always belongs to nations (whole peoples/societies) - one individual's personal fate cannot be called the destiny of an entire nation. In other words, any great change or turn of fortune needs the whole of society moving together; a lone individual cannot bring it about alone.

भावार्थ: यह मान भी लिया जाए कि इंसान अपने हर ऐब (कमी/बुराई) से आज़ाद हो जाए, तो इससे क्या हासिल होगा अगर इंसान (गोया) ख़ुदा ही बन जाए? यानी इंसान का पूरी तरह बे-ऐब, कामिल या ख़ुदा जैसा बनना न तो मुमकिन है, न ही यह असल मक़सद होना चाहिए। शायर का असल काम तो सिर्फ़ यह है कि वह हर दिल में ज़िंदगी के दर्द को - यानी दूसरों के दुख-दर्द को महसूस करने और उसमें शरीक होने की सलाहियत को - और ज़्यादा बढ़ा दे।

Meaning: even if we grant that a person could be freed from every flaw, what would be gained if a human being became, as it were, god? In other words, becoming entirely flawless, perfect, or god-like is neither possible for a human being nor should it be the real goal. The poet's true task is simply this: to deepen, in every heart, the pain of life - that is, the capacity to feel and share in the sorrows of others.
