غزل Ghazal - Shad Azimabadi

भावार्थ: दुनिया भर में ढूँढोगे तो भी हम आसानी से मिलने वाले नहीं, हम दुर्लभ हैं। जिसकी ताबीर (मतलब) हसरत और ग़म है, ऐ दोस्तो, हम वही सपना हैं। ऐ शौक़, तू ही कुछ बता - अब तक यह राज़ खुल नहीं पाया कि हम में बेचैन दिल छुपा है या हम ख़ुद ही बेचैन दिल हैं। दिल में इतनी तड़प भरी है कि कमज़ोरी ने उसे मानो बाँध रखा है, फिर भी आग पर रखे होने पर भी और उबाल आने पर भी हम उस पारे (सीमाब) जैसे बेचैन हैं। मैं हैरानी और हसरत का मारा, चुपचाप साहिल पर खड़ा हूँ - मुहब्बत का दरिया कहता है, आ जा, हम कहीं से भी छिछले (कम गहरे) नहीं हैं। लाखों मुसाफ़िर चलते हैं, मगर मंज़िल पर एक-दो ही पहुँच पाते हैं - ऐ दुनिया वालो, क़द्र करो, हम नायाब नहीं मगर कमयाब (मुश्किल से मिलने वाले) ज़रूर हैं। पिंजरे में बंद परिंदों को फूलों ने यह पैग़ाम भेजा है, ऐ शाद - कि आ जाओ, तुम्हें जब भी आना हो, हम अभी भी तरो-ताज़ा (शादाब) हैं।

Meaning: search the whole world over and you still won't easily find us - we are rare. We are the very dream whose meaning is longing and grief. O desire, you tell us - so far this mystery has never been revealed, whether a restless heart lies hidden within us, or we ourselves are that restless heart. The heart is so full of writhing longing that weakness itself seems to have bound it, yet even sealed over fire, even brought to a boil, we remain as restless as that quicksilver (mercury). Struck with wonder and longing, I stand silent on the shore - the river of love says, come, nowhere are we shallow (fathomable). Millions of travellers set out, but only one or two ever reach the destination - O people of this age, value us: we are not unobtainable, only rare. The caged birds have received this message from the flowers, O Shaad - come, whenever you wish to come, we are still fresh and blooming even now.
