غزل Ghazal - Asghar Gondvi

भावार्थ: दुनिया के तमाम दर्द-तकलीफ़ को शायर ने महबूब के ग़म में बदलकर आसान बना लिया। महबूब के जलवों की इतनी भरमार थी कि शायर ख़ुद को कामयाब-दीद (जिसने देख लिया) और महरूम-दीद (जो देखने से महरूम रहा) दोनों जैसा महसूस कर हैरान रह गया। महबूब बस यूँ ही मुस्कुराए तो मुरझाई कलियों में जैसे जान पड़ गई, और होंठ खुले तो मानो पूरा गुलिस्तान खिल उठा। शायर शेख़ (धर्मगुरु) से कहता है - जिसे तुम कुफ़्र कहते हो, वह असल में एक व्यापक (बसीत) हक़ीक़त है; बस रस्मो-रिवाज और बंदिशों ने उसे ईमान का नाम दे दिया है। दुनिया में जो उथल-पुथल (शोरिशें) निज़ाम-ए-जहाँ को क़ायम रखती हैं, उन्हीं को समेट कर मुख़्तसर किया गया तो 'इंसान' बन गया। आख़िर में शायर कहता है - हम तो महबूब की नाज़ भरी निगाह को नेशतर (घाव करने वाला) समझते थे, मगर उन्होंने मुस्कुरा कर उसे रग-ए-जाँ यानी ज़िंदगी की नस बना दिया।

Meaning: the poet turned the world's every pain into grief for the beloved, and so made it bearable. The sheer profusion of the beloved's radiant glimpses left him bewildered - feeling at once like one who has truly seen and one deprived of sight. A mere smile brought the dead rosebuds back to life; the moment those lips parted it was as if a whole garden had bloomed. The poet tells the Shaikh: what you call disbelief is in fact a vast, all-encompassing truth - mere custom and restriction have simply dressed it up as faith. The very turbulences that keep the order of the world running are what, once compressed, became 'man'. Finally the poet says: we had taken that proud, piercing glance for a lancet - but with one smile you turned it into the very artery of life.
