స్వామి వివేకానంద Swami Vivekananda

ఒక బాలుడు కలకత్తా వీధిలో నడుస్తుండగా, ఒక గుర్రపు బండి బెదిరి వేగంగా పరుగెత్తింది. బండిలో ఒక మహిళ భయంతో ఉంది. ఆ బాలుడు ధైర్యంగా బండిలోకి ఎక్కి గుర్రాన్ని శాంతపరిచి ఆపాడు. ఆ బాలుడే నరేంద్రనాథ్, తరువాతి వివేకానంద స్వామి.

On a Kolkata street a frightened horse-carriage bolts with a terrified woman inside. The boy Narendranath bravely leaps in, seizes the reins, calms the horse and stops it, saving her life. That boy later became Swami Vivekananda.

నరేన్ తండ్రి విశ్వనాథ్ దత్తా మంచి వకీలు; తల్లి భువనేశ్వరీదేవి. తల్లి రామాయణ, భారత, భాగవత కథలు చక్కగా చెప్పేది. నరేన్‌కు శ్రీరాముడి కథ అంటే ఎంతో ఇష్టం. సీతారాముల విగ్రహాన్ని పూజించేవాడు, హనుమంతుడిని చూడాలని తోటల్లో వెతికేవాడు.

Naren's father Vishwanath Dutta was a respected lawyer, his mother Bhuvaneshwari Devi told him stories from the Ramayana, Mahabharata and Bhagavata. He loved Rama deeply, worshipped clay idols of Sita and Rama, and searched gardens hoping to glimpse Hanuman.

ఆరేళ్ల వయసులో నరేన్ చదువు మొదలుపెట్టాడు. జ్ఞాపకశక్తి చాలా గొప్పది; గురువు ఒక్కసారి చెబితే చాలు నేర్చుకునేవాడు. ఆటలంటే ప్రాణం. తరగతిలో మాట్లాడాడని గురువు అడిగితే, నిజం చెప్పి తానే నిలబడిన ధైర్యవంతుడు.

Naren began schooling at six, learnt fast with an outstanding memory, loved games and led his classmates. When a teacher punished talkers, Naren honestly stood up too, saying he was the one who had spoken.

పెద్దవాడవుతూ నరేంద్రుడు ఎన్నో గ్రంథాలు చదివాడు, బి.ఏ. పట్టా పొందాడు. మతం గురించి అతనికి ఎన్నో సందేహాలు. చివరికి శ్రీరామకృష్ణుల దగ్గరకు వెళ్లి 'భగవంతుడిని చూశారా?' అని అడిగాడు. 'చూశాను, నీకూ చూపించగలను' అని వారు చెప్పగా అతను ఆశ్చర్యపోయాడు.

Growing up, Naren read widely and earned a B.A. Troubled by religious doubts, he finally went to Sri Ramakrishna and asked directly, 'Sir, have you seen God?' The fearless reply, 'Yes, and I can show you too,' left him speechless.

నరేంద్రుడు తరచూ శ్రీరామకృష్ణుల దగ్గరకు వెళ్లేవాడు. వారి జీవితం పవిత్రతకు ప్రతిరూపమని, చెప్పినదే చేసేవారని గ్రహించాడు. 1884లో తండ్రి మరణించడంతో అతని జీవితం తెగిన గాలిపటంలా అయింది; మనశ్శాంతి గురువు పాదాల చెంత మాత్రమే దొరికింది.

Naren visited Sri Ramakrishna often, recognising his life as the very image of purity and that he practised what he preached. When his father died in 1884, his life felt like a kite with a cut string, and peace came only at his guru's feet.

As a wandering monk Swamiji travelled across India, bearing hunger and hardship. At Kashi a charging troop of monkeys was driven off when, on an old monk's advice, he turned and faced them, a great lesson that troubles flee when we face them. At Kanyakumari he swam out to a great rock.

ఖేత్రీ మహారాజు 'వివేకానంద' అనే పేరు ఇచ్చి, ఓడ టిక్కెట్టు ఇచ్చాడు. స్వామీజీ అమెరికా వెళ్లాడు. చికాగో విశ్వమత మహాసభలో 'నా అమెరికా సోదర సోదరీమణులారా' అని మొదలుపెట్టగానే అందరూ లేచి కరతాళధ్వనులు చేశారు. భారత ధర్మం అన్ని మతాలను గౌరవిస్తుందని చాటాడు. తిరిగి వచ్చాక దేశమంతా ఘన స్వాగతం పలికింది. 1902లో శరీరాన్ని వదిలాడు; కానీ ఆయన పిలుపు దేశాన్ని మేల్కొలిపింది.

Given the name 'Vivekananda' by the Maharaja of Khetri, he sailed to America. At the Chicago Parliament of Religions his opening 'Sisters and brothers of America' brought the whole hall to its feet in applause, and he proclaimed India's respect for all faiths. Welcomed grandly on his return, he gave up his body in 1902, but his call awakened the nation.
