కుంరం భీం Kumram Bheem

ఆదిలాబాద్ అడవుల్లో గోండు తెగలో పుట్టిన భీం, చిన్నప్పటి నుంచే తెలివైనవాడు, ధైర్యవంతుడు. తండ్రి చిన్ను గూడెం పటేలు. ఒకరోజు అడవిలో కొమ్మ నరికినందుకు అమీన్‌సాబ్ భీం మిత్రుడు పైకు వేళ్ళు నరికించాడు. ఈ సంఘటన భీం మనసుపై చెరగని ముద్ర వేసింది.

Born into the Gond tribe in the Adilabad forests, Bheem was bright, brave and a natural leader from childhood. His father Chinnu was the village headman. When the official Amin Sahib cut off his friend Paiku's fingers for chopping a branch, the injustice left a deep mark on Bheem.

గాలి, నీరు, ఆకాశం మనవైతే భూమి, అడవి మనవి ఎందుకు కావు అని భీం వదినె కుకూబాయిని అడిగాడు. ప్రతిదానిపై పన్ను (పట్టి) కడితే తినేదెలా అని ఆలోచించాడు. దోపిడీలో అన్నీ కోల్పోయిన తండ్రి చిన్ను అనారోగ్యంతో చనిపోయాడు.

Bheem asked his sister-in-law Kukubai why, if the air, water and sky were theirs, the land and forest were not. He grieved that with taxes on everything they could not survive. Robbed of everything, his father Chinnu fell ill and died.

సుర్దాపూర్‌లో భూమి తగాదాలో సిద్దిక్ చనిపోవడంతో భీం ఊరు విడిచాడు. చాందా పట్నం చేరి విటోబా అనే ప్రింటింగ్ ప్రెస్ యజమాని వద్ద ఏడాది ఉన్నాడు. అక్కడే తెలుగు, హిందీ, ఇంగ్లీషు చదవడం, రాయడం నేర్చుకున్నాడు; రాజకీయాలు తెలుసుకున్నాడు.

After Siddiq died in a land dispute at Surdapur, Bheem left his village. At Chanda town he spent a year with Vithoba, who secretly ran a newspaper, and there learned to read and write Telugu, Hindi and English and to understand politics.

విటోబా అరెస్టయ్యాక భీం చాయ్‌పత్తా దేశం (అస్సాం) తేయాకు తోటలకు పోయి కష్టజీవుల బాధలు చూశాడు. అక్కడ మన్యం వీరుడు అల్లూరి సీతారామరాజు పోరాట రీతుల గురించి తెలుసుకున్నాడు. ఇప్పుడు భీం ఎక్కుపెట్టిన బాణంలా పోరాటానికి సిద్ధమైన వీరుడు.

After Vithoba's arrest, Bheem went to the tea gardens of Assam and saw the workers' suffering. There he learned of the rebel Alluri Sitarama Raju's fighting methods and became, like a drawn arrow, a warrior ready for battle.

తిరిగి వచ్చిన భీం పన్నెండు గూడాలను ఏకం చేశాడు. "జల్, జంగల్, జమీన్ మనది", "మా గూడెంలో మా రాజ్యం" అనే నినాదాలతో ప్రజలను సంఘటితపరిచాడు. వకీలు పైకాజీ హక్కు పోయిందని చెప్పినా, భీం పోరాటమే మార్గమని నిర్ణయించాడు.

On his return Bheem united twelve hamlets and rallied the tribal people with the slogans "the water, forest and land are ours" and "our rule in our hamlet." Though the lawyer Paikaji said their legal right was lost, Bheem decided that the fight was the only way.

గోండులు అడవి నరికి పంటలు పండించారు. జంగ్లాత్ వాళ్ళు దాడిచేస్తే ఎదిరించారు. జోడెన్‌ఘాట్ కేంద్రంగా ఆయుధాలు తయారుచేసి సైన్యం సిద్ధం చేశారు. నిజాం సైన్యం వచ్చినప్పుడు భీం బలగం వారిని ఓడించింది; పైకూబాయి వీరవనితలా పోరాడింది.

The Gonds cleared the forest, raised crops and beat back the forest officials' attack. With Jodenghat as their base they readied spears, arrows and guns, and when the Nizam's army attacked, Bheem's force defeated and drove them off; Paikubai fought like a warrior-woman.

నిజాం సర్కారు భూమి ఇవ్వడానికి ఒప్పుకుంది కానీ భీం గోండు రాజ్యాధికారమే కావాలని పట్టుబట్టాడు. కుర్దూపటేల్ ద్రోహం చేసి సైన్యానికి కొండ దారి చూపాడు. యుద్ధనీతికి విరుద్ధంగా వచ్చిన సైన్యం 01-09-1940న భీంను కాల్చి చంపింది. ఆయన తెలంగాణ చరిత్రలో నిలిచిన ఆణిముత్యం.

Though the Nizam's government offered land titles, Bheem insisted on full Gond self-rule over the twelve villages. Kurdu Patel betrayed them by showing the army a path up the hill, and on 01-09-1940 the Nizam's army, breaking the rules of war, shot Bheem dead. He remains a martyr and a jewel of Telangana's history.
