కాళోజి Kaloji

కాళోజి 09-09-1914న పుట్టాడు. ఆయన పుట్టిన ఊరు బీజాపూర్ జిల్లాలోని రట్టహళ్ళి. చిన్నతనంలో వీరి కుటుంబం మహారాష్ట్రలోని సాయరాం, తెలంగాణలోని కారేపల్లి, హనుమకొండ, మడికొండ వంటి చోట్ల నివసించింది.

Kaloji wrote in his autobiography 'Idi Na Godava' that he came onto the earth along with the First World War, on 09-09-1914. He was born in Rattahalli in Bijapur district and lived in several places as a child.

ఆయన అన్న రామేశ్వర రావు లా చదవడానికి హైదరాబాద్ వెళ్ళాడు. కాళోజి పాతబస్తీలో, తరువాత సుల్తాన్ బజార్‌లో, వరంగల్‌లో చదివాడు. 1939లో లా పూర్తి చేశాడు. 1940లో రుక్మిణిని వివాహం చేసుకున్నాడు.

After his elder brother Rameshwar Rao went to Hyderabad to study law, Kaloji studied in the old city, Sultan Bazar and Warangal, completing his law degree in 1939 and marrying Rukmini in 1940.

కాళోజి సొంత ఆస్తి లేని నిరాడంబరుడు. ఆచరణకు, ఆదర్శానికి తేడా లేని జీవితం ఆయనది. అనేక ఉద్యమాల్లో పాల్గొన్నాడు. స్వాతంత్ర్య ఉద్యమం, రజాకార్లకు వ్యతిరేక పోరాటం, తెలంగాణ ప్రత్యేక రాష్ట్ర పోరాటంలో నిలిచాడు.

A man of no personal property and simple living, Kaloji was a lifelong activist. He questioned everything, joined the freedom movement, went to jail resisting the Razakars, defied the Nizam, and fought for a separate Telangana state.

కాళోజి సమాజ గొడవను తన గొడవగా చేసుకొని 'నా గొడవ' పేరుతో ఎనిమిది సంపుటాల కవితలు రాశాడు. భాషలో జనం వాడే వ్యావహారిక భాషే జీవభాష అని, మాండలికమే జీవధాతువు అని నమ్మాడు.

Making society's struggle his own, he published eight volumes of poems titled 'Na Godava'. He held that the everyday spoken (vyavaharika) language, not the bookish (granthika) language, is the living language, and that dialect is the lifeblood of any language.

కాళోజి కథకునిగా కూడా రాణించాడు. మతం, కులం పేరిట మనుషుల్ని హీనంగా చూడటం దారుణమని చెప్పాడు. ఆయన తండ్రికి గాంధీ సూఫీతత్వం, మత సామరస్యం ఉండేవి. అందుకే కాళోజికీ కుల, మత పట్టింపులు లేవు.

Excelling also as a story writer with clear, direct, dissenting tales, he showed how cruel it is to demean people in the name of religion or caste. Raised in his father's atmosphere of Gandhian Sufi spirit and communal harmony, Kaloji held no caste or religious prejudice.

1948లో వరంగల్ సెంట్రల్ జైలులో ఒక పోలీసు బెదిరించినప్పుడు 'ధైర్యముంటే కాల్చవోయ్' అని కాళోజి సవాల్ చేశాడు. వ్యక్తిత్వం, స్వేచ్ఛ మనిషి కోల్పోకూడదని చెప్పాడు. ఓటుకు ప్రజాస్వామ్యంలో చాలా విలువ ఉందని చాటాడు.

When a policeman threatened the prisoners in Warangal Central Jail in 1948, Kaloji fearlessly challenged him to shoot if he dared. He declared that a person must never lose individuality and freedom, and walked about wearing a board proclaiming the democratic value of the vote.

శ్రీశ్రీ కాళోజిని ఫ్రెంచి కవి లూయీ అరగాన్‌తో పోల్చాడు. తన మరణం తరువాత తన దేహం వైద్యవిద్యార్థుల పరిశోధనకు ఉపయోగపడాలని కోరాడు. 18-11-2002న మరణించాక ఆయన దేహం కాకతీయ మెడికల్ కళాశాలకు అందజేశారు.

The great poet Sri Sri compared Kaloji to the French poet Louis Aragon. Wishing his body to serve medical students' research after death, Kaloji died on 18-11-2002 and his body was handed over to Kakatiya Medical College.
