ఆచార్య కొత్తపల్లి జయశంకర్ Acharya Kottapalli Jayashankar

జయశంకర్ వరంగల్ జిల్లా ఆత్మకూరు మండలం అక్కంపేట గ్రామంలో లక్ష్మీకాంతరావు, మహాలక్ష్మీ దంపతులకు ఆగస్ట్ 6న పుట్టాడు. ఉర్దూ మీడియం బడుల్లో మొదలై ఉస్మానియాలో బి.ఎ., బెనారస్, అలీగఢ్ విశ్వవిద్యాలయాల్లో పి.జి. పూర్తి చేశాడు.

Jayashankar was born in Akkampet village (Athmakur mandal, Warangal district). He studied in Urdu-medium schools, took his B.A. at Osmania and his postgraduate degrees from Banaras and Aligarh universities.

వరంగల్‌కు డిగ్రీ కాలేజీ కావాలని విద్యార్థులు ఉద్యమించినప్పుడు జయశంకర్ మాత్రం యూనివర్సిటీ కావాలని నినాదం ఇచ్చాడు. అందరూ నవ్వారు, పిచ్చివాడన్నారు. కొన్నేళ్లకు అతడే ఆ యూనివర్సిటీకి వైస్ ఛాన్సలర్ అయ్యాడు.

When students agitated for a degree college in Warangal, Jayashankar instead demanded a university and was laughed at as mad. His foresight came true, and he later became Vice-Chancellor of that very university.

1960లో ఉపాధ్యాయుడిగా మొదలై, ఆదిలాబాద్‌లో లెక్చరర్, సీకెఎం కళాశాల ప్రిన్సిపాల్, సీఫెల్ రిజిస్ట్రార్, చివరికి కాకతీయ యూనివర్సిటీ వైస్ ఛాన్సలర్ అయ్యాడు. వైస్ ఛాన్సలర్ కంటే ప్రిన్సిపాల్‌గా చేయడమే ఎక్కువ తృప్తినిచ్చిందని చెప్పేవాడు.

His career began as a teacher in 1960, moving through lecturer, college principal and registrar to Vice-Chancellor of Kakatiya University. He said serving as a college principal gave him more satisfaction than being Vice-Chancellor.

తెలంగాణ ఉద్యమంలో జయశంకర్ కీలక పాత్ర పోషించాడు. ఇంటర్ విద్యార్థిగా తరగతులను బహిష్కరించాడు, ఫజల్ అలీ కమిషన్‌కు ప్రత్యేక రాష్ట్రం కోరుతూ విజ్ఞప్తి ఇచ్చిన బృందంలో ఉన్నాడు. ఉద్యమంలో మూడు దశలు ఉన్నాయని చెప్పాడు: భావజాల వ్యాప్తి, ఆందోళన, రాజకీయ ప్రక్రియ.

Jayashankar was the ideologue of the Telangana movement that unfolded in three stages. He met the Fazal Ali Commission demanding a separate state, and laid out the movement's three phases: spreading the idea, agitation, and the political process.

నీతి, నిజాయితీ, నిరాడంబరత, సమయపాలన ఆయన లక్షణాలు. తన పరిశోధక విద్యార్థికి సమయం కేటాయించి, దగ్గరి మిత్రుడు వచ్చినా సమయం అయ్యాక మర్యాదగా ముగించేవాడు. వ్యక్తికి కాక సమయానికి విలువ ఇచ్చేవాడు.

Honesty, simplicity, commitment and punctuality were his marks. He guarded the time he set aside for his research student even from close friends, valuing time itself over any person.

శ్రీకృష్ణ కమిటీ ఏర్పడగానే ఆరోగ్యాన్ని లెక్క చేయకుండా నివేదిక తయారు చేశాడు. క్యాన్సర్‌తో బాధపడుతూ కూడా కమిటీ సందేహాలు తీర్చడానికి ఢిల్లీకి వెళ్లాడు. నీళ్లు, నిధులు, ఉద్యోగాల్లో జరిగిన అన్యాయాలను లెక్కలతో సహా చెప్పేవాడు.

Ignoring his health, he prepared a report for the Srikrishna Committee and travelled to Delhi to answer its questions even while suffering from cancer. He explained the injustices in water, funds, land and jobs with full figures.

జయశంకర్ పెళ్లి చేసుకోలేదు; సంపాదించినదంతా ఉద్యమాల కోసం ఖర్చు పెట్టాడు. తల్లిదండ్రులు లేని అనాథ బాలుడిని చేరదీసి, చదివించి, పెళ్లి చేశాడు. ఒకే మాట మీద, ఒకే మార్గంలో నడిచిన ఆయన తెలంగాణ సాకారం కాకముందే 21 జూన్ 2011న క్యాన్సర్‌తో మరణించాడు.

Jayashankar never married and spent all his earnings on the movement; he raised and educated an orphan boy and got him married. Walking one path all his life, he died of cancer on 21 June 2011, before Telangana was formed.
