తీయని పలకరింపు Teeyani Palakarimpu

ఒకరోజు టీవీలో ఒక ప్రకటన వస్తుంది: అరవై ఏళ్ల గంగాధరరావు అనే వ్యక్తి కనబడటం లేదని, పక్షవాతం వచ్చి కర్ర పట్టుకుని నడుస్తాడని చెబుతారు. ఆ టీవీ చూస్తున్న గంగాధరరావు ఉలిక్కిపడతాడు. తన ఇంటివాళ్ళు పెన్షను, డిపాజిట్ల కోసమే వెతుకుతున్నారని అతనికి అనిపిస్తుంది.

A TV announcement seeks a missing sixty-year-old man, Gangadhararao, who walks with a stick after a stroke. Watching it, Gangadhararao himself startles, and suspects his family is searching only for his pension and deposits, not for him.

గంగాధరరావు ఒక ఆశ్రమంలో ఉంటాడు. అక్కడి సూపరింటెండెంటు విమల అతనితో రోజూ కబుర్లు చెబుతుంది. తను ఎక్సైజు కమీషనర్‌గా పనిచేసిన గొప్ప రోజులను అతను గుర్తు చేసుకుంటాడు.

Gangadhararao lives in a home for the old, where the kind superintendent Vimala chats with him daily. He recalls his proud days as an Excise Commissioner and the respect he once commanded.

తను ఎందరికో సహాయం చేశానని, ఉద్యోగాలు నిలబెట్టానని, బంధువుల పెళ్ళిళ్ళకు డబ్బు ఇచ్చానని గంగాధరరావు చెబుతాడు. అయినా మంచి చేసినవాళ్ళకు మంచే జరగదని అతని అనుభవం. భార్య, కొడుకు, కూతురు గురించి విమల అడిగితే అతను నొచ్చుకుంటాడు.

He recounts how he helped many, saved jobs, and paid for relatives' weddings, yet learnt that good deeds do not always bring good in return. When Vimala asks about his wife, son and daughter, he laughs a sad, mysterious laugh.

గంగాధరరావు భజన్‌లాల్ నిలయం అనే ఆశ్రమానికి ఫోన్ చేసి, తనకు విడిగా గది, నౌకరు కావాలని, ఖర్చు తానే ఇస్తానని చెబుతాడు. ఒక రాత్రి టాక్సీలో సామానుతో వచ్చి ఆశ్రమంలో దిగుతాడు. తను సొంతంగా డాక్టర్‌ను పిలిపించుకుని వైద్యం చేయించుకుంటాడు.

Gangadhararao phones the Bhajanlal Nilayam asking for a separate room, attached bath and a servant, saying he will pay his own way. He arrives at dawn by taxi with his luggage, then arranges his own doctor and physiotherapy and slowly improves.

ఒకప్పుడు తను అడిగినవన్నీ క్షణాల్లో జరిగేవి; కానీ ఇంట్లో ఇప్పుడు వేళకు కాఫీ లేదు, పిలిస్తే పలికే దిక్కు లేదు, జబ్బుచేస్తే డాక్టర్‌ను పిలవరు. భార్య సావిత్రమ్మ, కొడుకు, కోడలు, కూతురు అందరూ తన పెన్షను, ఆస్తి గురించే ఆలోచిస్తారు.

Once everything he asked for happened in moments; now at home there is no coffee on time, no one answers his call, and no doctor when he falls ill. His wife Savitramma ignores him, the daughter-in-law wants the house transferred, the son and grandchildren think only of his money and property.

ఇంట్లో తను ఎవరికీ ఏమీకాని వాడిలా ఉండలేక ఆశ్రమానికి వచ్చానని గంగాధరరావు విమలకు చెబుతాడు. ఇక్కడ తనకు పిలిస్తే పలికే నౌకరు ఉన్నాడు, వేళకు భోజనం ఉంది; 'బాబుగారూ' అంటూ ఆప్యాయంగా పిలిచే విమల ఉంది. తనకు కావలసింది ఆ తీయని పలకరింపు మాత్రమే అంటాడు.

Gangadhararao explains he could not bear to stay as a stranger in his own home, where they grudged even a doctor, so he came here. Here he lives like a king with a servant who answers, food on time, and Vimala who calls him 'Babugaru' with love. 'What more do I need, my child, but a sweet word?' he says, and Vimala understands what a human truly needs.
