శతక మధురిమ Shataka Madhurima

ఓ సర్వేశ్వరా! కులపర్వతాలన్నీ చెల్లాచెదురైనా, సముద్రాలు హద్దులు దాటి పొంగినా, సూర్యచంద్రులు తమ దారి తప్పినా, నీ భక్తుడు మాత్రం చలించడు, పొంగిపోడు, పద్ధతి తప్పడు, నీతిని వదలడు.

Even if the great mountains crumble, the seas overflow their bounds, the sun and moon stray from their courses, the true devotee never wavers, never swells with pride, never strays from his path.

ఓ శ్రీకాళహస్తీశ్వరా! తప్పుడు జోస్యాలు చెప్పడం, సేవలు చేయడం, అబద్ధాలు ఆడడం, వంకర దారిలో కీర్తి సంపాదించడం, చాడీలు చెప్పడం, హింస మొదలుపెట్టడం, అనవసర అర్థాలు చెప్పడం, ఇవన్నీ ఇతరుల ధనాన్ని ఆశించి చేసేవే. కానీ ఇలా సంపాదించినది ఎంతకాలం నిలుస్తుంది? (నిలువదు అని భావం).

False prophecy, servile flattery, lying, winning fame by crooked means, tale-bearing, starting violence, twisting meanings, all are done coveting others' wealth, but how long can such gains last? (They do not last.)

వైభవంలో ఇంద్రుని మించిన సురభిమల్లా! నీతిలో బృహస్పతితో సమానమైనవాడా! చెవులకు శాస్త్రజ్ఞానమే నిజమైన అందం కానీ కుండలాలు కావు; చేతులకు దానమే అందం కానీ కంకణాలు కావు; శరీరానికి పరోపకారమే ఆభరణం కానీ సుగంధ లేపనాలు కావు.

O Surabhimalla, greater than Indra in splendour, equal to Brihaspati in wisdom: learning is the true ornament of the ears, not earrings; charity adorns the hands, not bangles; selfless service to others is the true jewel of the body, not perfumes.

ఓ భాస్కరా! రాజుకు తనకే మంచి ఆలోచన పుట్టనప్పుడు, మంత్రులు ఎంత తెలివైనవారైనా పని జరగదు. కార్యాలోచన లేని దుర్యోధనుని పనులను, కార్యదక్షులైన ద్రోణ, భీష్మ, కృపాచార్యుల వంటి మహావీరులు కలిసినా నెరవేర్చలేకపోయారు కదా!

O Bhaskara, when the king himself has no sound counsel in his mind, however wise his ministers may be, the task fails; even the great warriors Drona, Bhishma and Kripa together could not accomplish the cause of the ill-counselled Duryodhana.

ఓ వేంకటపతీ! బ్రహ్మాండనాథుడా! లక్ష్మీపతీ! ధనం, ధనంపై అభిమానం, ఎప్పుడూ ధనం కావాలనే కోరిక, ఈ మూడు దోషాలు ధనికునికి ఉంటాయి. పేదవానికి ధనమే ఉండదు. ధనంపై ఆశ ఉన్నా, మంచివారి దగ్గర ఉంటే అది కూడా తగ్గిపోతుంది. కాబట్టి ధనికుని కంటే పేదవాడే ధన్యుడు కదా!

O Venkatapati, lord of the universe, consort of Lakshmi: wealth, pride in wealth and unending greed for wealth, these three flaws belong to the rich; the poor man has no wealth, and his greed too subsides in good company, so the poor man is more blessed than the rich.

మెడలో నాగరాజును ధరించిన శ్రీవేములవాడ రాజరాజేశ్వరా! విషాన్ని మింగి దేవతల దుఃఖాన్ని తొలగించానని నీలో నీవు మురిసిపోకు. మనుషుల్లో సూది మొనకు కూడా చోటు లేనంతగా విషం నిండిపోయింది. ఆ మనుషుల్లోని భయంకరమైన విషాన్ని ముందు తొలగించు.

O Rajarajeshwara of Vemulawada, who wears the serpent-king around your neck: do not rejoice that you swallowed poison and removed the gods' sorrow; in human beings poison is so packed that not even a needle's point can find room. First remove that dreadful poison within people.

నింబగిరిలో వెలసిన నరసింహ దేవా! కోడలిని కూతురులా చూస్తే ఇంట్లో ఘోరాలు కలుగుతాయా? కార్మికులను భాగస్థులను చేస్తే కర్మాగారంలో అల్లర్లు జరుగుతాయా? దళితులను సొంత అన్నదమ్ముల్లా భావిస్తే ప్రపంచంలో ఉపద్రవాలు పుడతాయా? ఇతర మతస్థులను తమవారిగా ప్రేమిస్తే కొట్లాటలు పెరుగుతాయా? అన్ని జీవులను తనలాగే ఆదరిస్తే భూమి మీద ఆపదలు పుట్టవు కదా!

O Narasimha dwelling at Nimbagiri: if a daughter-in-law is treated like a daughter, will calamities arise in the home? If workers are made partners, will there be unrest in the workshop? If the oppressed are honoured as one's own brothers, will disasters strike the world? If those of other faiths are loved as one's own, will quarrels grow? If all beings are cherished as oneself, surely no troubles will arise on earth.

విష్ణువు పూజించిన పాదపద్మాలు కలిగిన ఓ చంద్రమౌళీశ్వరా! ఆశ అనే పాశంలో చిక్కి చెడిపోకుండా, ఎప్పుడూ ఓర్పుతో గురువు ఆదేశాలను తలదాల్చి యోగాభ్యాస విధులను ఆచరిస్తూ, ఆయన దివ్యమైన ఆశీర్వాదాన్ని పొందినప్పుడే శిష్యుడు శ్రేష్ఠమైన శాంతిని పొందగలుగుతాడు.

O Chandramoulishwara, whose lotus feet are worshipped by Vishnu: only when a disciple, not corrupted by the snare of desire, patiently bears the teacher's commands, practises the disciplines of yoga, and receives the teacher's divine blessing, does he attain the highest peace.
