బతుకమ్మ పండుగ Batukamma Panduga

దసరా దగ్గరలో బతుకమ్మల పండుగ వస్తుంది; ఆడవాళ్లకు అత్యంత ముఖ్యమైన పండుగ.

With Dussehra near, comes the festival of Batukamma - most important for women, though boys too have a role.

రంగు రంగు పూలతో అంగనలందరు బతుకమ్మను పేరుస్తారు; ప్రతి రోజు వీధిలో ఆడుతారు.

Women prepare colourful flower Batukammas and dance in the streets with songs every day.

పిన్నవారే కాక ఊరి పెద్దవారు కూడా వచ్చి బతుకమ్మ ఆట చూస్తారు.

Young and old, the whole village comes to watch and join the Batukamma dance.

ఎల్లుండో బతుకమ్మ నాడు పెద్ద బతుకమ్మలను శ్రద్ధతో పేరుస్తారు.

On the final Batukamma day, large flower stacks are carefully prepared and placed in the street before the school.

మహిళలు చుట్టూ పాడుతూ ఆడుతారు; చిన్న పిల్లలు చిత్తుడు గొట్టాల్లో కాగితపు చిమ్ములు చిమ్ముతారు.

Women dance and sing in circles; little children play with paper bits from matchboxes while elders dance till dusk.

చివరి రోజు బతుకమ్మలను చెరువులో నిమజ్జనం చేస్తారు; పడవల్లాగా సాగుతాయి.

The festival ends with immersion - Batukammas float on the water like boats on the waves.

నిమజ్జనం తర్వాత ఒకటి రెండు రోజులకు దసరా వస్తుంది; ఊరంతా సంతోషం నిండుతుంది.

Batukamma fills the whole village with joy; one or two days later comes Dussehra.
