పుస్తక పరిచయం Pustaka Parichayam

ఒక పుస్తకం ఆశయాన్ని, రచయిత దృక్పథాన్ని తెలియజేస్తూ రాసే పరిచయ వాక్యాలనే పీఠిక అంటారు. దీనికే ముందుమాట, భూమిక, ప్రస్తావన, తొలిపలుకు, మున్నుడి, ఆముఖం అని పేర్లు ఉన్నాయి.

A peetika is the analytical introductory note a writer or critic writes to present a book's background and aims. It is also called mundumata, bhoomika, prastavana, tolipaluku, munnudi, or aamukham.

నేషనల్ బుక్ ట్రస్ట్ ప్రచురించిన 'నెల్లూరి కేశవస్వామి ఉత్తమ కథలు' సంపుటికి గూడూరి సీతారాం రాసిన పీఠికే ఈ పాఠం. కేశవస్వామితో రచయిత స్నేహం 1950ల నాటిది.

This lesson is the foreword Gooduri Seetharam wrote for the National Book Trust collection 'Nelluri Keshavaswamy Uttama Kathalu'. The two had been literary friends since the 1950s in Hyderabad.

హైదరాబాద్‌లో పుట్టిన నెల్లూరి కేశవస్వామి ఇంజనీర్‌గా పనిచేశారు; హైదరాబాద్ నగర జీవితాన్ని, సంస్కృతిని తెలుగులో చిత్రించిన గొప్ప కథకుడు. ఆయన కథలు ప్రేమ్‌చంద్, కిషన్‌చందర్‌లతో పోల్చదగినవి.

Hyderabad-born Keshavaswamy trained as an engineer at Osmania and worked in the irrigation department. He portrayed Hyderabad's life and living language in his stories, and is ranked alongside Premchand and Kishan Chandar.

కేశవస్వామి రెండవ సంకలనం 'చార్‌మినార్ కథలు' (11 కథలు). ఇవి కేవలం ఊహాజనిత కథలు కావు; హైదరాబాద్ రాజ్యం చరిత్రను, సంస్కృతిని, ముస్లింల జీవితాలను చిత్రించిన సామాజిక చరిత్ర.

Keshavaswamy's second collection, 'Char Minar Kathalu' (eleven stories), is not mere fiction but a social history that records the Hyderabad State, its Muslim lives, and the culture of the nawabs and devidis.

'యుగాంతం' కథ ఒక యుగం అంతమవడాన్ని, హైదరాబాద్ రాజ్య పరిణామాలను చారిత్రక డాక్యుమెంటులా చిత్రిస్తుంది. 'రూహీ ఆపా' కథ కులమతాలకు అతీతంగా స్పందించే మానవీయ హృదయాన్ని, నవాబుల హృదయ సంస్కారాన్ని చిత్రిస్తుంది.

'Yugantam' captures the end of an era and the social change of Hyderabad State like a historical document; this one story alone would secure Keshavaswamy's fame. 'Roohi Aapa' shows the nawab honouring a mujra singer like his own daughter, portraying tender human bonds beyond caste and creed.

'వంశాంకురం', 'కేవలం మనుషులం', 'భరోసా', 'ఆఖరి కానుక' వంటి కథలు దేనికవే ప్రత్యేకం. ఆడపిల్లల జీవితాలు, మతాతీత స్నేహం, పేదల కష్టాలు వీటిలో హృదయవిదారకంగా చిత్రించబడ్డాయి.

'Vamsankuram' shows how the craving for a son shatters girls' lives, 'Kevalam Manusham' a friendship that erases religious boundaries, 'Bharosa' the betrayal of trusting poor people, and 'Aakhari Kanuka' the plight of Muslim families sinking into poverty.

మంచి పీఠిక ఒక గ్రంథ గొప్పదనాన్ని, నేపథ్యాన్ని తెలియజేసి, ఆ పుస్తకాన్ని చదవాలనే ఆసక్తిని కలిగిస్తుంది. మెతుకు చూసి అన్నం ఉడికిందో లేదో తెలిసినట్లే, పరిచయం చదివి పుస్తకాన్ని అర్థం చేసుకోవచ్చు.

A fine preface conveys a book's worth and background and kindles the wish to read it; just as one grain tells whether the rice is cooked, a good introduction lets a reader grasp the whole book. Keshavaswamy's stories are likened to the Kohinoor and Jacob diamonds of Golconda.
