விரிவாகும் ஆளுமை Virivaagum Aalumai

குறிக்கோள் இல்லாதவன் வெறும் சதைப்பிண்டம் என்று புலவர் ஆலத்தூர்கிழார் கூறுகிறார். பிறருக்காகப் பணி செய்வதால்தான் ஒருவன் வாழ்க்கை பண்புடைய வாழ்க்கையாகிறது. பிறர் நலம் பேணும் சமுதாயமே இன்பம் தருகிறது.

A person without a goal is merely a mass of flesh, says the poet Aalathoor Kizhar. A life becomes a noble life only through serving others. The more a person works for others' welfare, the more his personality grows, and such a society gives joy.

தமிழ்ப் பாணரும் புலவரும் தமிழ் வழங்கும் இடமெங்கும் சென்று வாழ்த்தியதால் 'தமிழகம்' என்னும் ஒற்றுமை உணர்வு உண்டானது. அகத்திணை இலக்கியமும், ஐந்து நிலங்களின் கூறுகளும் புலவர்களின் பரந்த மனப்பான்மையை வளர்த்தன.

தமிழ் மக்கள் 'சான்றோன்' என்னும் உயர்ந்த மனிதனைப் போற்றினர். ஒவ்வொருவரும் சான்றோன் ஆகலாம்; அவ்வாறு ஆக்குவதே கல்வியின் நோக்கம். சான்றோன் சமுதாயத்திலேயே வாழ்ந்து பல நன்மைகளைச் செய்வான்.

The Tamil people honoured the 'Sanron', the ideal wise person. Unlike the Roman 'sapiens' who withdrew from society, the Tamil Sanron lived within society and did much good. Anyone can become a Sanron, and making people so is the very purpose of education.

தமிழ்ப் புலவர்கள் 'ஒன்றே உலகம்' என்று பாடினர். ஸ்டாயிக்வாதிகள், செனக்கா, மார்க்ஸ் அரேலியஸ் ஆகியோரும் இதே கருத்தை மேற்கில் கூறினர். திருவள்ளுவர் உலகம் முழுவதையும் தழுவும் வகையில் தம் நூலை யாத்துள்ளார்.

Tamil poets cherished the idea 'The world is one'. In the West the Stoics, Seneca, and Emperor Marcus Aurelius ('Because I am a man, I belong to the world') said the same. Valluvar composed his work to embrace the whole world, and so G.U. Pope honoured him as 'the poet of the world'.
