முத்தொள்ளாயிரம் Muthollaayiram

சேற்று நீர் நிறைந்த வயல்களில் சிவந்த ஆம்பல் மலர்கள் மெல்ல மலர்ந்தன. அதைக் கண்ட நீர்ப்பறவைகள் வெள்ளம் வந்துவிட்டது என்று அஞ்சி, தம் குஞ்சுகளைச் சிறகால் இறுக்கி அணைத்துக் கொண்டன. பகைவர் அஞ்சும் கூரிய வேலைக் கொண்ட சேரனின் நாட்டிலும் இப்படி ஓர் அச்சம் தோன்றியதே.

In the muddy, water-rich paddy fields the red waterlilies bloomed open. Seeing them, the flocks of water birds, fearing a flood had come, drew their chicks tight under their wings. Such a fright arose even in the land of the Chera, whose spear with its poison-edged blade makes enemies tremble.

நெல்லை அறுவடை செய்து காக்கும் உழவர்கள் நெற்போரின் மீது ஏறி நின்று, மற்ற உழவர்களை 'நாவலோ' என்று கூவி அழைப்பர். அது போர்க்களத்தில் வீரர்கள் கொல்யானை மீது ஏறி நின்று மற்ற வீரர்களை அழைப்பது போல் இருந்தது. யானைப்படைகளை உடைய சோழனது நாடு இத்தகைய வளமும் வீரமும் மிக்கது.

The guarding farmers, standing on the heaps of grain in the threshing floor, call out 'naavalo' to the other farmers. This is like warriors mounting the war elephant on the battlefield and calling out to their fellow warriors. The land of the Chola, lord of fine war elephants, is rich in both abundance and valour.

சங்குகள் மணலில் ஈன்ற இளம் முட்டைகளும், புன்னை மரத்தின் குவிந்த மொட்டுகளும், கமுக மரத்தின் பாளையிலிருந்து சிந்தும் மணிகளும் முத்துகள் போல் ஒளிர்கின்றன. முத்து வளம் மிக்க, வெண்கொற்றக் குடையை உடைய பாண்டியனது நாடு இத்தகையது.

The tender eggs the conches lay in the sand, the closed buds of the punnai tree, and the seed-pearls that fall from the spathe of the young areca palm all shine like pearls. Such is the pearl-rich land of the Pandya who bears the white royal parasol.
