குடும்ப விளக்கு Kudumba Vilakku

கல்வி இல்லாத பெண்கள் பண்படாத களர்நிலம் போன்றவர்கள். அந்த நிலத்தில் புல் முதலானவைதான் விளையும்; நல்ல பயிர் விளையாது. அதுபோல கல்வி இல்லாத பெண்கள் வழியாக நல்ல அறிவுள்ள மக்கள் உருவாக மாட்டார்கள். ஆனால் கல்வி கற்ற பெண்கள் பண்பட்ட நல்ல நிலம் போன்றவர்கள்; அவர்கள் வழியாகவே நல்லறிவு உடைய மக்கள் தோன்றுவார்கள்.

Women without education are like uncultivated barren land where only weeds grow and no good crop springs up. In the same way, wise children cannot arise through uneducated women. Educated women are like fertile, well-tilled fields; it is from them that wise people grow.

வானூர்தியைச் செலுத்துதல், பெரிய கடல் முழுவதையும் அளத்தல் போன்ற எந்தச் செயலும் ஆண், பெண் இருவருக்கும் பொதுவானவை. இந்த உலகம் ஆண்களின் கட்டுப்பாட்டில் வலிமை இழந்து போனதால்தான் பெண்களுக்கு விடுதலை பறிபோனது.

Piloting an aircraft, measuring the whole vast ocean, every such deed is common to both men and women. It was because the world weakened under the rule of men that women's freedom was taken away.

இந்நாளில் பெண்களுக்கு ஏற்பட்டுள்ள வேலையை அவர்கள் நன்கு செய்ய வேண்டும். அதோடு தங்கள் விடுதலைக்கான செயலையும் பெண்களே செய்ய வேண்டும். மின்னல் போல் ஒளிரும் இயல்புடையவள் பெண். ஆனால் கல்வியறிவு இல்லாத பெண் தன் வாழ்வில் என்றும் ஒளிராமல் இருப்பாள் என்றே நான் சொல்வேன்.

In these days, let women do well the work that has fallen to them, with one golden hand, and with the other flower-like hand let them carry out the act of winning their own liberation. A woman is by nature one who shines like lightning; but the uneducated woman, I say, will never shine in her life.

சமைப்பதும் வீட்டு வேலையும் பெண்களுக்கே உரியவை என்று கூறுவது சரியில்லை. அவை நமக்கும் (ஆண்களுக்கும்) உரியவை என்று ஆண்கள் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளும் எண்ணம் வரவேண்டும். அந்த நல்ல நாளைக் காண்போம். சமைப்பது தாழ்வா? இல்லை; இன்பத்தோடு சமைக்கின்றவர் சமையல் செய்வார்.

It is not right to say that cooking and housework belong only to women. The good day must come when men too accept that those tasks are ours as well. Is cooking lowly? No; the one who cooks with joy will gladly cook.

உணவை ஆக்குதல் மக்களுக்கு உயிரை ஆக்குவது போன்றதே. வாழ்வு பணத்தால் மட்டும் வருவதன்று; படை வலிமையால் காண்பதன்று. அடுப்பில் நெருப்பை மூட்டி, சமைக்கும் கலத்தில் சுவையை இட்டு, உள்ளத்தில் அன்போடு பரிமாறும் உணவால்தான் வாழ்வு நலம் பெறுகிறது.

Is not the making of food the making of life for people? Life does not come by money alone, nor is it gained by armies. By kindling fire in the hearth, putting flavour into the cooking pot, and serving food with love from a near and present heart, our living is made good.

சமைக்கும் பணி பெண்களுக்குத் தவிர்க்க முடியாத கடமை என்றும், அப்பணி நல்ல தாய்மார்களுக்கே உரியது என்றும் தமிழ்த்திரு நாட்டில் இருக்கின்ற வழக்கத்தை, கண் இமைக்கும் நேரத்தில் நீக்க வேண்டுமானால், பெண்களுக்கு எப்போதும் கல்வி வேண்டும்.

If the custom that prevails in our noble Tamil land, that cooking is an unavoidable duty for women and a task fit only for good mothers, is to be removed in the blink of an eye, then women must always have education.
