அக்கறை Akkarai

சைக்கிளில் கொண்டுவந்த தக்காளிக் கூடை சரிந்து விழுந்தது. முக்கால் பகுதி பழுத்த சிவப்புத் தக்காளிகள் தரையில் உருண்டன.

தக்காளிகள் எல்லாத் திசைகளிலும் சிதறி உருண்டன. சிலர் தலைக்கு மேலே தூக்கி நடந்தனர், சிலர் விற்பனைப் பொருளாகக் கண்டனர்.

அந்தச் சிதறிய பழங்களைக் கடந்தும், அவற்றை மிதித்து நடந்தும், அனைவரும் தம் வேலையை நோக்கிப் போய்விட்டனர். யாரும் உதவ நிற்கவில்லை.

Everyone walks past and walks on, stepping by the spilled fruit, and they all go away without stopping to help.

தக்காளிகள் நசுங்கின; ஆனால் அந்தப் பழங்களைவிட மோசமாக நசுங்கிப் போனது, அடுத்த மனிதர்கள் மீது நமக்கு இருக்க வேண்டிய அக்கறை.

The tomatoes are crushed; but the poet ends by saying that what was crushed even more than the fruit was our concern for the fellow human beings beside us.
