தேம்பாவணி Thembavani

கருணையன் கைகளைக் குவித்து, பூமித்தாயே என் தாயின் உடலை அன்போடு காப்பாயாக என்று வேண்டுகிறான். அழகிய மலர்ப்படுக்கையை விரித்து, செம்மையான அறங்களை எல்லாம் தன்னுள் கொண்ட அந்தத் தாயின் உடலை மண்ணில் அடக்கம் செய்து, மலர்களையும் கண்ணீரையும் ஒருசேரப் பொழிந்தான்.

Folding his hands, he prays Mother Earth to lovingly protect his mother's body. He spreads a beautiful bed of flowers, buries in the earth the body of the mother who held all good virtues within her, and pours down flowers and his tears together.

என் தாய் தன் வாயால் மணிபோலக் கூறிய உண்மையான சொற்களை மழைநீர் போல் ஏற்றுக் கொண்டு, அத்தாயின் அன்பு மார்பில் ஒரு மணிமாலை போல அசைந்து நான் அழகாக வாழ்ந்தேன். ஆனால் இளம்பயிர் நீர் இல்லாமல் வாடிக் காய்வதுபோல, இப்போது தாயை இழந்து நானும் வாடுகிறேன்.

He drank in like rainwater the true, gem-like words his mother spoke, and lived beautifully, swaying like a jewelled garland on her loving breast. Alas, like a young crop that withers and dries before bearing grain, he now wilts having lost his mother.

பரந்த மரக்கிளையிலிருந்து பறிக்கப்பட்ட மலர் வாடுவதுபோல என் நெஞ்சம் வாடுகிறது. தீயையும் நஞ்சையும் முனையில் கொண்ட அம்பினால் துளைக்கப்பட்ட புண்ணின் வலியால் வருந்துவதுபோல என் துயரம் இருக்கிறது. துணையைப் பிரிந்த பறவைபோல, வழுக்கும் நிலத்தில் தனியே வழி தெரியாமல் தவிப்பவன்போல ஆனேன்.

His heart withers like a flower plucked from a spreading branch. His grief is like the pain of a wound pierced by an arrow tipped with fire and poison. Like a bird parted from its mate he laments in the forest, and like one who slips on treacherous ground he is left alone, knowing no way forward.

உடலுக்கு உணவைத் தேடிக் கொண்டு வரும் வழியை நான் அறியேன்; உணர்வுக்கு ஏற்ற உறுப்புகள் இயங்கும் முறையை அறியேன்; செய்யும் வழியையும், செல்லும் வழியையும் அறியேன். என் தாய் தன் கையால் காட்டிய வாழ்க்கை முறையை மட்டுமே அறிவேன். அந்தத் தாயோ என்னைத் தனிமையில் விட்டுத் தான் மட்டும் தனியாகப் போய்விட்டாளே!

I know not how to seek and bring food for the body; I know not how the organs work in fitting order; I know not the way to act or the way to go. I know only the way of useful living that my mother showed me with her own hand. Yet that mother has left me to suffer alone and gone away by herself.

நல்ல அறங்களை ஒரு மணிமாலையாக இணைத்து அணிந்த மார்புடைய கருணையன் இவ்வாறு புலம்பிக் கூறினான். அதைக் கேட்டு, பல்வேறு இசைகளை இயக்கியதுபோல, மணம் வீசும் மலர்களும், சுனைதோறும் உள்ள பறவைகளும் வண்டுகளும், அக்காட்டிலே அவனுடன் சேர்ந்து உரக்க அழுவன போன்று ஒலித்தன.

Karunaiyan, whose breast wears virtues strung together like a garland of nine gems, lamented in this way. As though set to many tunes, the fragrant flowers, and the birds and bees by every forest pool, sounded out in that forest as if weeping along with him.
