மருவூர்ப்பாக்கத்தின் வீதிகளில் வண்ணக்குழம்பு, சுண்ணப்பொடி, குளிர்ந்த மணச்சாந்து, பூ, நறுமணப் புகைப்பொருள், அகில் முதலான மணப்பொருள்களை விற்பவர்கள் வணிகம் செய்து கொண்டிருந்தனர்.

Along the streets of Maruvurppakkam, traders sold coloured paste, scented powder, cool fragrant sandal, flowers, incense and aromatics like aloewood, carrying on their business without fault.

பட்டு, முடி, பருத்திநூல் இவற்றைக் கொண்டு அழகாகப் பின்னிக் கட்டும் கைத்தொழில் வல்லுநரான நெசவாளர் வாழும் வீதிகளும் இருந்தன.

There were streets where the weavers lived, skilled craftsmen who wove finely with silk, hair-fibre and cotton thread.

பட்டு, பவளம், சந்தனம், அகில், முத்து, மணி, பொன் ஆகியவை அளக்க முடியாத அளவிற்குக் குவிந்து கிடக்கும் வளம் நிறைந்த அகன்ற வணிக வீதிகளும் இருந்தன.

There were broad, prosperous market streets where silk, coral, sandal, aloewood, flawless pearls, gems and gold lay heaped beyond measure.

இவ்வீதிகளில் வேறு பல பண்டங்களின் விற்பனையும் நடைபெற்றது. எட்டு வகைத் தானியங்களும் குவிந்து கிடக்கும் கடைத் தெருக்களும் இருந்தன.

Other goods of many kinds were also sold here, and there were grain streets where the eight kinds of grain lay heaped up.

அப்பம் சுடுபவரும் கள் விற்கும் வலைச்சியரும் மீன் விற்கும் பரதவரும், வெண்மையான உப்பு விற்கும் உமணரும், வெற்றிலை விற்பவரும், ஐந்து நறுமணப் பொருள் விற்பவரும், பல வகை இறைச்சி விற்பவரும், எண்ணெய் வணிகரும் வணிகம் செய்தனர்.

Here too were those who baked cakes, the toddy-selling women, the fisherfolk selling fish, the salt-sellers of white salt, the betel-leaf sellers, sellers of five aromatics, sellers of many kinds of meat and the oil merchants.

வெண்கலம், செம்புப் பாத்திரம் செய்வோர், மரத்தச்சர், இரும்புக் கொல்லர், ஓவியர், மண் பொம்மை செய்பவர், சிற்பிகள், பொற்கொல்லர், இரத்தின வேலை செய்பவர், தையற்காரர், தோல்பொருள் தைப்பவர், துணியாலும் கட்டையாலும் பொம்மை செய்பவர் ஆகியோர் இருந்தனர்.

There were makers of bronze and copper vessels, carpenters, blacksmiths, painters, makers of clay dolls, sculptors, goldsmiths, gem-workers, tailors, leather-stitchers, and those who made dolls of cloth and wood.

குழலிலும் யாழிலும் குரல், துத்தம், கைக்கிளை, உழை, இளி, விளரி, தாரம் என்னும் ஏழு இசைகளைக் குற்றமில்லாமல் இசைத்துச் சிறந்த திறமையைக் காட்டும் பெரும்பாணர்களின் இருப்பிடங்களும் இருந்தன.

There were also the dwellings of the great paanar musicians, who played the seven notes flawlessly on flute and yaazh and showed their high skill.

சிறுசிறு கைத்தொழில் செய்வோரும் பிறருக்கு ஏவல் செய்வோரும் வாழும் இடங்களும் இருந்தன. இவை அனைத்தும் குற்றமின்றிச் சிறப்புடன் அமைந்து பரந்து கிடந்தன.

There were also places where those who did small handicrafts and those who served others lived; all of this lay spread out, flawless and splendid.
