இராமானுசர் Ramanusar

சண்பகம் நாளுக்கு ஒருமுறை, பிரம்ம கமலம் ஆண்டுக்கு ஒருமுறை, குறிஞ்சி பன்னிரண்டு ஆண்டுக்கு ஒருமுறை, மூங்கில் தலைமுறைக்கு ஒருமுறையே மலர்வது போல, தலைமுறைக்கு ஒருமுறை பிறப்பவர்கள் ஞானிகள். அப்படி வந்த இராமானுசரைப் பற்றிய நிகழ்ச்சியே இந்த நாடகம்.

Just as rare flowers bloom only once in long cycles, true sages are born only once in a generation. The play introduces Ramanusar as such a sage and unfolds one episode from his life.

இராமானுசர், கூரேசர், முதலியாண்டான் ஆகிய மூவரும் திருக்கோட்டியூர் பூரணரின் இல்லத்திற்கு வந்து, புனித திருமந்திரத்தின் திருவருளை வேண்டி நிற்கின்றனர். பல முறை வந்தும் பயனில்லை; இம்முறை விருப்பம் நிறைவேறுமா என்று எண்ணுகின்றனர்.

Ramanusar, with Kuresar and Mudaliyandan, comes again to Puranar's house in Tirukkottiyur seeking the grace of the sacred mantra, having been summoned in accordance with the message sent through their teacher's tradition.

பூரணர், தான் கூறும் மறைபொருளை மூவருக்கு மட்டுமே தெரிய வேண்டும்; வேறு யாருக்கும் கூறினால் அது குருவின் கட்டளையை மீறியதாகும், அதற்குத் தண்டனை நரகமே என எச்சரிக்கிறார். பின் திருமந்திரத்தை அவர்களுக்குக் கூறுகிறார்.

Puranar warns that the secret meaning must be known to the three of them alone; revealing it to anyone else would defy the teacher's command and earn the punishment of hell. He then imparts the sacred mantra to them.

திருக்கோட்டியூர் கோவில் மதில்சுவர் மேல் ஏறி நின்று, இராமானுசர் உரத்த குரலில் அனைவரையும் அழைத்து, பிறவிப்பிணியைத் தீர்க்கும் திருமந்திரத்தைப் பொதுமக்களுக்குக் கூறுகிறார். மக்கள் அனைவரும் சேர்ந்து மூன்று முறை அதைச் சொல்கின்றனர்.

Defying Puranar's restriction, Ramanusar climbs the temple wall and calls everyone near, openly proclaiming to the common people the mantra that ends the cycle of births; the gathered crowd repeats it three times.

செய்தி அறிந்து கோபம் கொண்ட பூரணர், இராமானுசரை இல்லத்திற்கு அழைக்கிறார். குருவிற்கு நம்பிக்கைக்கேடு செய்தாயே, தண்டனை நரகம் என்று தெரிந்தும் ஏன் இப்படிச் செய்தாய் என்று கேட்கிறார்.

Learning what happened, an angry Puranar summons Ramanusar and asks why he committed this fault, betraying his teacher when he well knew the punishment was hell.

ஒருவருக்கு மட்டுமே கிடைத்த நன்மையைவிட, அதைக் கூறியதால் பல்லாயிரம் மக்கள் பிறவிப்பிணி நீங்கிப் பேறு பெறுவார்கள்; தண்டனை தனக்கு மட்டுமே வரட்டும், மக்கள் அனைவரும் நலம் பெறட்டும் என்று இராமானுசர் கூறுகிறார். அவரின் பரந்த அருள் உள்ளம் கண்டு பூரணர் வியக்கிறார்.

Ramanusar replies that though the benefit was meant for him alone, by sharing it thousands will be freed; let the punishment fall on him alone while all the people prosper. Moved by this vast compassion, Puranar marvels and praises him.

தனக்கு இல்லாத பரந்த அருள் உள்ளம் இராமானுசரிடம் இருந்ததே என்று பூரணர் ஒப்புக்கொண்டு, 'எம் பெருமான்' என்னும் திருநாமம் அவருக்கு என்றென்றும் நிலைக்க வாழ்த்துகிறார். விடை பெறும்முன் தம் மகன் செளம்ய நாராயணனையும் இராமானுசரிடம் ஒப்படைக்கிறார்.

Admitting that the broad-hearted grace he himself lacked shone in Ramanusar, Puranar blesses him with the lasting name 'Em Peruman' and a long life, and at parting entrusts his own son Soumya Narayanan to his care.
