பன்முகக் கலைஞர் Panmugak Kalainjar

கலைஞர் கருணாநிதி 1924ஆம் ஆண்டு சூன் 3ஆம் நாள் திருவாரூர் மாவட்டத்தில் உள்ள திருக்குவளை என்னும் ஊரில் பிறந்தார். தந்தை முத்துவேலர், தாய் அஞ்சுகம் அம்மையார். குழந்தை உள்ளமும் போராட்டப் பண்பும் இளமையிலேயே அவருக்கு அமைந்தன.

Karunanidhi was born on 3 June 1924 at Thirukkuvalai in Thiruvarur district, the third child of the farmer-poet Muthuvelar and Anjugam Ammaiyar. From childhood he grew with both a tender heart and a spirit of struggle.

பதினான்கு வயதில் இந்தித் திணிப்பை எதிர்த்து மாணவர்களைத் திரட்டித் திருவாரூர் வீதிகளில் ஊர்வலம் வந்தார். பெரியாரின் பகுத்தறிவுக் கருத்துகளும் அண்ணா, அழகிரி போன்றோரின் பேச்சாற்றலும் அவரைக் கவர்ந்தன.

At fourteen he led students in a procession through the streets of Thiruvarur to oppose the imposition of Hindi. Periyar's rationalist ideas drew him, and the oratory of Pattukottai Azhagiri and Arignar Anna captivated him.

இளமையிலேயே சிறந்த பேச்சாளராக விளங்கினார். 'பழநியப்பன்' முதலான பல நாடகங்களை எழுதினார். 'தூக்குமேடை' நாடகத்தில் நடித்தபோது அவருக்கு 'கலைஞர்' என்னும் சிறப்புப்பெயர் வழங்கப்பட்டது.

From his youth he became a fine orator and wrote many plays such as 'Pazhaniyappan' and 'Manimagudam'. At the felicitation for his acting in the play 'Thookkumedai' he was given the honorific name 'Kalaignar'.

திரைப்படங்களுக்கு வசனம் எழுதத் தொடங்கினார். 'பராசக்தி' படத்தின் வசனங்கள் பெரும் புகழ் பெற்றன. அவருடைய வசனங்கள் மொழியின்பத்தைத் தந்தன; முற்போக்குச் சிந்தனைகளைச் சுமந்தன.

In 1947, at twenty-three, he began writing for films and wrote all the dialogue for 'Rajakumari'. The day after 'Parasakthi' released, its dialogue rang out across the land. His dialogues gave delight in language and carried progressive ideas.

பதினெட்டு வயதில் 'திராவிட நாடு' இதழில் முதல் கட்டுரை எழுதினார். 'முரசொலி' ஏட்டை நாளேடாக வளர்த்தார். கவிதைகள், சிறுகதைகள், புதினங்கள், தொல்காப்பியப் பூங்கா போன்ற நூல்களை எழுதினார்.

At eighteen he wrote his first essay in the journal 'Dravida Nadu'. He began 'Murasoli' as a handwritten paper and grew it into a daily. He wrote nine volumes of poetry, many short stories, novels, and works such as 'Tholkappiya Poonga'.

திருவள்ளுவர் மீது தீராத பற்றுக் கொண்டு சென்னையில் வள்ளுவர் கோட்டத்தையும் குமரியில் வள்ளுவர் சிலையையும் அமைத்தார். அண்ணா நூற்றாண்டு நூலகம், பூம்புகார்க் கலைக்கூடம் போன்ற பல கட்டுமானங்களையும் எழுப்பினார்.

Out of his deep love for Thiruvalluvar he built the Valluvar Kottam in Chennai and the Valluvar statue at Kanyakumari. He also raised many structures such as the Anna Centenary Library and the Poompuhar art centre.

இயல், இசை, நாடகம் என்னும் முத்தமிழிலும் முத்திரை பதித்ததால் 'முத்தமிழ் அறிஞர்' என்று போற்றப்பட்டார். 2010இல் கோவையில் உலகத் தமிழ்ச் செம்மொழி மாநாட்டை நடத்தினார். 2018ஆம் ஆண்டு சூலை 7ஆம் நாள் தம் 94ஆம் வயதில் மறைந்தார்.

For leaving his mark across the three branches of Tamil (literature, music, drama) he was hailed as 'Muthamizh Arignar'. In 2010 he hosted the World Classical Tamil Conference at Coimbatore. Living up to the saying 'the body for the soil, the life for Tamil', he passed away on 7 July 2018 at the age of 94, becoming an epic forever fixed in Tamil hearts.
