A flat line means at rest. A steeper line means a faster speed.

For a curve, draw a tangent at the point and find its gradient for the speed there.

Sloping up = speeding up. Flat line = constant velocity. Sloping down = slowing down.

Split the shape into rectangles and triangles and add the areas.

distance	how far an object has travelled, measured in metres
speed	how fast distance is covered, distance divided by time
velocity	speed in a stated direction
gradient	the steepness of a line, found as rise divided by run
acceleration	the rate at which velocity changes, measured in metres per second squared
tangent	a straight line that just touches a curve at one point, used to find the gradient there
displacement	distance moved in a stated direction from the start point
stationary	not moving; distance stays the same over time
