लेझीम Lezim (The Joyous Harvest Dance)

कवी सांगतात, सुगीचे दिवस सुरू झाले आहेत, ओला चारा असल्याने बैलही उत्साहात आहेत आणि शेतकऱ्यांची मने प्रफुल्लित झाली आहेत. लेझीम जोरात वाजू लागते.

At the very start of the poem, the poet describes that the harvest season has begun, the fields are lush with fresh fodder, making even the bullocks lively and spirited, and seeing this, the farmers' hearts too fill with joy. In this wave of happiness, the vigorous rhythm of the traditional lezim dance begins to resound - a vibrant scene the poet paints.

दिवटी (छोटी मशाल) फुरफुर करू लागली आहे आणि पटक्यांची (टोपीची) टोके डुलू लागली आहेत. लेझीम खेळण्यासाठी रांग सज्ज झाली आहे.

In the next stanza the poet describes how the small ceremonial torch (divti) carried by the lezim players is lit and begins to flicker and crackle, while the tips of the turbans on the players' heads sway rhythmically. With everything thus prepared, the row of players stands ready to play, and once again the vigorous rhythm of the lezim begins.

डफ भरभर वाजू लागतो आणि लेझीम खेळणारे गोल मंडल करून, बाजूला-मागे-पुढे वाकत जोरदार खेळतात.

The poet describes how the daf (a frame drum) begins to resound loudly, and the lezim players, forming a great circle, bend sideways, backward and forward, playing with tremendous energy. The poet vividly captures the rhythmic movement of the players' bodies to the drumbeat and the exuberance it generates.

पहाट होते, तारे मंदावतात, चंद्रही मावळायला येतो, तरीही लेझीम खेळणाऱ्यांचा मेळा (गट) मात्र अजिबात थकलेला नसतो - रात्रभर तेवढ्याच जोरात लेझीम चालू असते.

At the end of the poem, the poet describes how dawn breaks, the stars in the sky begin to fade, and the moon too sinks towards setting, yet the band of lezim players shows no sign of tiring - they keep playing all through the night with the same unwavering enthusiasm and vigour. Through this the poet underscores the intensity of the harvest joy and the farmers' inexhaustible energy.
