संतवाणी Santvani

झाडाला मान आणि अपमान कळत नाही; ते दोन्ही सारखेच मानते. संतही असेच वागतात. कोणी येऊन झाडाची पूजा केली, तरी झाडाला त्याचे सुख वाटत नाही.

Just as a tree does not know honour or insult, so the noble saints conduct themselves. When beings come and worship the tree, it feels no special joy in that respect.

कोणी येऊन झाडाला तोडले, तरी झाड 'मला तोडू नका' असे म्हणत नाही. तसेच निंदा आणि स्तुती संत सारखीच मानतात; असे संत पूर्ण धीराचे असतात.

Or if someone comes and cuts the tree, it does not say 'do not chop me'. In the same way, the saints who regard blame and praise as equal are truly steadfast, patient souls.

नामदेव म्हणतात, अशा संतांची भेट जर झाली, तर आपल्या जिवाची देवाशी गाठ पडते, म्हणजे ईश्वराची भेट घडते.

Namdev says: if one meets such saints, then the individual soul (jiva) is knotted to the Supreme (Shiva), meaning union with God comes about.

संत जनाबाई म्हणतात, मी पंढरीच्या त्या चोराला (विठ्ठलाला) पकडले आणि भक्तीच्या दोराने त्याच्या गळ्यात बांधले. माझे हृदय हाच तुरुंग केला आणि त्यात विठ्ठलाला कोंडून ठेवले.

Janabai says: I caught the 'thief of Pandhari' (Vitthal) and bound a cord around his neck. I made my heart a prison and shut Vitthal inside it.

मी शब्दांची साखळी बांधून विठ्ठलाच्या पायात बेडी घातली. 'सोहं' (तू म्हणजे मीच) या शब्दाचा मारा केला, तेव्हा विठ्ठल कळवळून आला.

With words I forged a chain and put fetters on Vitthal's feet. I struck him with the word 'soham' (He is I), and Vitthal became helpless and pleading.

शेवटी जनाबाई म्हणतात, हे विठ्ठला, आता मी तुला जिवात जीव असेपर्यंत सोडणार नाही.

Janabai concludes: O Vitthal, I will not let you go as long as I live.
