मी वाचवतोय Mi Vachavatoy

हाकेच्या अंतरावरून आई दूर जात आहे. गोठ्यातल्या गाई हंबरायच्या थांबल्या आहेत. लहान किराणा आणि भुसार दुकाने हरवत चालली असून सुपर मार्केटच्या झगमगाटात ती झरझर नाहीशी होत आहेत.

The mother is slipping out of calling distance, the cows in the shed have stopped lowing, and the small grocery shops are vanishing fast in the dazzle of the supermarket.

लोहाराचा भाता आणि कुंभाराचा आवा गावगाड्यासोबत मुकाट निघून चालले आहेत. कल्हईची झिलई विस्तवासोबत गेली. मागच्या धगीवर रटरटणारी आमटी राखेसह दुरावली आणि आता गॅसच्या शेगडीवर शिजते. बोलण्यातूनही आईची बोली हरवत चालली आहे.

The blacksmith's bellows and the potter's kiln are silently passing away along with the old village order; the burnished tinning has gone with the fire, the curry that simmered on the embers has moved to the gas stove, and even the mother tongue is fading from daily speech.

सुटीतसुद्धा आता मुले विटीदांडू आणि लगोरी खेळत नाहीत. त्यांचा दंगा, आट्यापाट्या आणि पिंगा थांबला आहे. परकर घातलेल्या मुली आधीचे मातीतले खेळ खेळत नाहीत.

Even in the holidays children no longer play vitidandu, lagori, atyapatya or pinga; their noisy games have stopped, and the little girls too have left behind the old games of the soil.

मुले आता दूरदर्शनच्या चॅनेलवर दंग असतात, क्रिकेटची मॅच बघतात आणि क्राइम-थ्रिलर उलगडत बसतात.

Children now stay absorbed in television channels, watching cricket matches and unravelling crime-thrillers.

आता लिहिते हात लिहिते राहिले नाहीत. शब्द हे बापुडे, केवळ वाऱ्यासारखे विरून जात आहेत.

The writing hand no longer writes, and the helpless words too drift away like nothing but the wind.

As all this disappears, the poet declares that he is saving his poetry, and his mother, and his mother tongue, and his land, all of it, together with his poem.
