श्यामचे बंधुप्रेम Shyam's Brotherly Love

श्यामचा धाकटा भाऊ नव्या कपड्यांसाठी आईकडे सतत हट्ट धरत असतो. आई त्याला समजावण्याचा प्रयत्न करते, पण भावाचे मन काही ऐकत नाही. हे पाहून श्यामच्या मनात आपल्या भावासाठी काहीतरी करण्याचा निश्चय जन्म घेतो.

Shyam's younger brother keeps pestering their mother for new clothes. The mother tries to console and reason with him, but he remains unsatisfied. Watching his brother's longing, Shyam resolves in his heart to do something special for him.

श्यामचे वडील वारंवार कामासाठी दापोलीला जात असत आणि जाताना श्यामला खाऊसाठी थोडे पैसे देत असत. श्याम मात्र ते पैसे खर्च न करता आपल्या भावासाठी कोट शिवण्यासाठी हळूहळू साठवत राहतो. यासाठी तो स्वतःच्या आवडीच्या गोष्टींचाही त्याग करतो.

Shyam's father used to travel frequently to Dapoli for work, and each time he would give Shyam a little pocket money for treats. But instead of spending it, Shyam saves it bit by bit with the intention of getting a coat stitched for his younger brother, giving up his own favourite treats in the process.

बरेच महिने साठवलेल्या पैशांतून श्याम शेवटी भावासाठी कोट शिवून घेतो आणि तो घेऊन घरी निघतो. नेमका त्याच वेळी नवा पाऊस सुरू झालेला असतो, त्यामुळे वाटेतला पिसईचा ओढा दुथडी भरून वाहत असतो. जिथे तो राहत होता तिथल्या लोकांनी त्याला 'जाऊ नको' असे सांगूनही श्याम भावाला भेट देण्याच्या ओढीने चालत निघतोच.

After saving money for many months, Shyam finally gets the coat stitched and sets off for home with it. Right around this time the new monsoon rain has begun, softening the earth, and the Pisai stream is running in full flood along the way. Even though the people he was staying with warn him not to go, Shyam sets out walking anyway, so eager to give his brother the gift that he does not even feel the strain of the journey.

पिसईच्या पुराशी झुंज देत, अश्रूभरल्या डोळ्यांनी, श्याम शेवटी घरी पोहोचतो आणि भावासाठी आणलेला कोट त्याला देतो. भावाचा आनंद पाहून श्यामलाही समाधान वाटते. जेव्हा त्याने ही सगळी हकिकत आईला सांगितली, तेव्हा मुलाच्या या निरपेक्ष प्रेमाने आईलाही गहिवर आला.

Crossing the fully-flooded Pisai stream with tear-filled eyes, Shyam finally reaches home and hands the coat to his brother. Seeing his younger brother's joy fills Shyam's heart with satisfaction. When he later recounted the whole episode to his mother, she too was moved to tears by her son's selfless love and sacrifice.
