माझ्या अंगणात In My Courtyard

कवी सांगतो की त्याच्या अंगणात काळ्याभोर मातीतून पिकवलेल्या धान्याची रास पडते, जी अगदी मोती व पवळ्यांसारखी टपोरी आणि सुंदर दिसते. काळी माती इतकी सुपीक आहे की तिच्यातून भरभरून धान्य मिळते, याचा कवीला अभिमान आणि आनंद वाटतो.

The poet proudly says that in his courtyard, grain grown from the rich black soil piles up like a heap of pearls and corals, radiant and precious to look at. The abundant grain that comes from this fertile black earth is, he feels, the greatest reward of a farmer's life.

कवी सांगतो की रानावनात नैसर्गिकरीत्या उगवलेला रानमेवा (जंगली फळे) आहे. हा रानमेवा एकमेकांना गुण्यागोविंदाने वाटून खाल्ला, तर तो संपत नाही उलट अधिकच वाढत जातो, असा आनंददायी संदेश कवी देतो. वाटण्यातील आनंद ही खरी समृद्धी आहे, हे यातून दिसते.

The poet says that the wild forest fruit (ranmeva) that grows naturally in the wilderness, when shared happily among everyone, does not diminish but instead grows more abundant. Through this the poet conveys that sharing does not deplete but multiplies joy, underscoring the importance of togetherness.

शेतातील कामाने दमलेला शेतकरी घरी परततो, तेव्हा त्याची आई त्याला दुधावरच्या सायीसारखी प्रेमाने घास भरवते. हे प्रेम पाहून कवीला समाधान वाटते. पण जेव्हा अंगणातले धान्य खाऊन पाखरे दूर उडून जातात, तेव्हा त्यांच्या विरहाने कवीच्या गालांवर आसू ओघळतात.

When the farmer, exhausted from labouring in the fields, returns home, his mother lovingly feeds him a morsel with the tenderness of cream on milk - a tender scene the poet paints with great warmth. But when the birds, having pecked at the grain in the courtyard, fly far away, their departure brings tears rolling down the poet's cheeks, a wistful note on which the stanza ends.
