About the author
This poem is by Sumati Pawar. In it the poet imagines taking on various natural forms one after another, and finally wishes that these poetic fancies should not remain mere illusions but truly come to pass.
Summary
In the first stanza, the poet says she wishes to ride upon the air and roam freely across the sky. Again and again the thought comes to her mind that she should become a bird and fly unhindered through the vast open sky.
In the second stanza the poet says she wishes to become a dewdrop at dawn and settle upon the grass. Then, as the sun rises, its heat should turn her into vapour and lift her into the sky, and this cycle should repeat again and again, meaning she wishes to become part of nature's own cycle.
In the third stanza the poet says she wishes to become the deep colours on the horizon, turning into a cloud that gently sways in the sky. Then she wishes to become a swift-blowing wind and play with the moon. This reveals her desire to merge with nature's free and restless forms.
In the fourth stanza the poet says she wishes to become mist and settle down upon the earth softly and gently, covering the whole world and looking at it with playful mischief. In the fifth stanza she says she wishes to see the sun, the very source of all energy, from close up, and become a sunbeam that pierces through darkness, so that she too has a part in dispelling the dark.
In the final stanza the poet says she wishes to become completely absorbed in nature's many colours. But she states clearly that this should not remain a mere illusion or fancy of the mind; she sincerely wishes that all the forms she has imagined should actually come true. This is what gives the poem its fitting title, 'Let This Truly Come True'.
