तरफ The Lever (Taraf)

एका खड्ड्यात मोठा दगड अडकला होता. अनेक लोक पहारे वापरून दगड हलवण्याचा प्रयत्न करत होते, पण दगड हलत नव्हता.

A large stone was stuck in a pit. Many people tried to move it with crowbars and poles, but it would not budge.

लहान आर्कीने हा गोंधळ पाहिला. त्याच्या मनात तरफ वापरून मोठे वजन हलवता येईल अशी कल्पना होती.

Young Arki noticed the commotion. He had long thought that a lever could move great weight.

आर्कीने लांब लाकडाचा ओंडका घेतला, तो दगडाखाली खोलवर खुपसला आणि खाली लाकडाची गंडेरी टेकू म्हणून ठेवली.

He took a long wooden beam, wedged it deep under the stone, and placed a block of wood as a fulcrum beneath it.

आर्कीने दुसऱ्या टोकाला लोकांना जोर लावण्यास सांगितले. थोड्याच वेळात मोठा दगड सरकून खड्ड्याबाहेर आला.

He asked people to press down on the other end. Soon the huge stone slid out of the pit.

ही घटना ऐकून राजा हायरो आर्कीला दरबारात बोलावतो. लहान मुलाच्या बुद्धीचा आणि विज्ञानाचा गौरव होतो.

King Hiero summoned Arki to court. The boy's wisdom and the power of science were honoured.
