दोन दिवस Two Days

कवी म्हणतो, दोन दिवस चांगल्या दिवसाची वाट पाहण्यात गेले आणि दोन दिवस दुःखात गेले. डोक्यावर किती उन्हाळे - म्हणजे आयुष्याचे दिवस - शिल्लक आहेत याचा हिशोब करतो.

The poet says two days were spent waiting for happiness and two in sorrow. He counts how many summers - meaning remaining days of life - are still left on his head.

शेकडो वेळा चंद्र आला, तारे फुलले, पण भुकेने चंद्रही भाकरीसारखा दिसत होता. भाकरीचा चंद्र शोधण्यातच जिंदगी बरबाद झाली.

The moon rose many times and stars bloomed, but hunger made even the moon look like a piece of bread. The poet says his whole life was wasted searching for that moon of bread.

हे हात माझे सर्वस्व. ते दारिद्र्याकडे गहाण राहिले. कधी माना उंचावलेले, कधी कलम झालेले - म्हणजे आशा आणि निराशा.

These hands are all I have, he says; they remained pledged to poverty. Sometimes raised in hope, sometimes drooping in despair.

अश्रू वाळविले नाहीत, पण कधीकधी अश्रूच मित्र होऊन मदतीला धावून आले. दुःख व्यक्त करण्यासाठी अश्रूच साथ देतात.

He did not hold back tears; yet at times tears alone rushed to help as a friend, giving outlet to hidden pain.

दुःख कसे पेलावे, पुन्हा कसे जगावे - हे जगाच्या शाळेत शिकले. झोतभट्टीत शेकावे पोलाद तसे आयुष्य तापून-सुलाखून घेतले.

He thought constantly of the world and became one with it. He learned in the world's school how to bear sorrow and live again. Like steel tempered in a furnace, life was forged through hardship.
