चुडीवाला The Bangle-Seller

अब्दुल हा बांगड्या विकणारा सामान्य व्यवसायी आहे. जिल्हाधिकारी कचेर्‍याजवळ त्याचे दुकान आहे.

Abdul is an ordinary bangle-seller with a shop near the district collector's office. He is hardworking, but money is not his only concern.

दाजीसाहेबांच्या तपोवनात कुष्ठरोगी स्त्रिया राहतात. अब्दुल वर्षातून दोनदा - संक्रांती आणि ज्येष्ठ पौर्णिमेला - तिथे जातो.

At Dajisaheb's Tapovan live women afflicted with leprosy. Twice a year, on Sankranti and Jyeshtha Purnima, Abdul goes there on his own, fills bangles wholeheartedly without expecting payment, and brings joy to their faces.

Shannu, a dutiful homemaker, feels that closing the shop on festival days to go to Tapovan means lost income. Yet Abdul bears her words and continues his selfless service.

कुष्ठरोग हा लोकांना भीती वाटणारा विषय असतो. तरी अब्दुल या स्त्रियांच्या हातात बांगड्या भरून त्यांच्या आनंदात स्वतःला समाधानी मानतो.

Ordinary people shun leprosy, yet Abdul fills bangles on these women's hands and finds fulfilment in their joy. Humble even when honoured, he is a great social worker.
