Summary
At the start of the poem, the poet describes dense clusters of flowers stretching as far as the eye can see, and urges us to preserve these colours, the colours of joy and of a blossoming future. She goes on to say that however advanced computers become, they cannot grow grain, so we must support and stand behind the hands that toil in the black soil, for only then will this earth, our mother, stay alive.
The poet says that if seeds are scattered and flung across the hillsides, native trees will take root, the forests will grow lush, and as a result rain will fall from the sky. She expresses the belief that anyone living amid the foam-white spray of water rushing down from the mountains can never remain sorrowful or weary. This conveys the natural cycle of forests and rainfall and its deep importance.
The poet says that machines will surely bring money and wealth, but there is a different, unique fulfilment found under the open sky, in nature's company, that money cannot buy. Countless shades of green spread all around, and she closes the poem by saying she wishes to tell the world of this silky, deep greenness. Throughout the poem, the refrain 'colours of joy, colours of a rising future' recurs, underscoring the message of preserving nature.
A distinctive feature of this poem is that the line 'colours of joy, colours of a rising future, let us preserve this creation' returns like a refrain after every stanza. This repetition keeps the poem's central idea constantly in focus, flowers, soil, seeds, rain and greenery all point to a single message, that even while embracing the conveniences of the computer age, our bond with nature, the soil and the hands that labour in it must never be broken. In this way the refrain binds the poem into one coherent, meaningful whole.
