वीरांगना Veerangana

हा पाठ देशासाठी व समाजासाठी काम करणाऱ्या दोन वीरांगनांची ओळख करून देतो. विद्यार्थ्यांच्या मनात देशभक्ती व समाजऋणाची जाणीव निर्माण व्हावी हा त्याचा उद्देश आहे.

The lesson introduces two heroines who serve the nation and society. Its aim is to awaken in students a sense of patriotism and of the debt we owe to society.

स्वाती महाडिक यांनी बी.एससी आणि एम.एस.डब्ल्यू केले आणि पुणे महानगरपालिकेत गरिबांसाठी काम केले. भारतीय लष्करातील अधिकारी संतोष महाडिक यांच्याशी त्यांचा विवाह झाला. कार्तिकी व स्वराज ही त्यांची दोन मुले.

After completing B.Sc. and M.S.W., Swati Mahadik worked for slum rehabilitation and the poor in the Pune Municipal Corporation. She married Santosh Mahadik, an officer of the Indian Army, and had two children, Kartiki and Swaraj.

१७ नोव्हेंबर २०१५ रोजी जम्मू-काश्मीरच्या कुपवाड्यात दहशतवाद्यांशी निकराने लढताना कर्नल संतोष महाडिक यांना वीरमरण आले. सैन्य व वर्दी हे त्यांचे पहिले प्रेम होते.

On 17 November 2015, in Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir, Colonel Santosh Mahadik fell as a martyr while fighting terrorists fiercely. The army and the uniform were his first love.

पतीच्या अंत्यविधीच्या वेळीच स्वाती यांनी सैन्यात भरती होण्याचा निश्चय केला. चाळिशीच्या आसपास वय असूनही विशेष परवानगीने वयाची अट शिथिल करून घेतली आणि परीक्षा व चाचण्या यशस्वीपणे पार पाडल्या.

Without breaking under fate's blow, Swati resolved at her husband's last rites to join the army. Though around forty, she got the age limit relaxed by special permission and cleared the selection board exam and the physical and medical tests at her first attempt.

चेन्नईच्या ऑफिसर्स ट्रेनिंग अकॅडमीत अकरा महिने खडतर प्रशिक्षण घेऊन त्या लेफ्टनंट झाल्या. आपल्यापेक्षा निम्म्या वयाच्या तरुण मुलींबरोबर प्रशिक्षण घेताना त्यांचा उत्साह कमी झाला नाही. हे प्रशिक्षण त्यांच्या दु:खावर मात करण्याचे साधन ठरले.

After eleven months of very hard training at the Officers Training Academy, Chennai, she joined as a Lieutenant, earning two proud stars on her shoulder. Training alongside young women about half her age, her enthusiasm shamed even passing time, and the training became a means to overcome her grief.

स्वाती म्हणतात की आर्मीचे जीवन ही केवळ नोकरी नसून जगण्याचा एक खास मार्ग आहे; तिथे शारीरिक क्षमतेपेक्षा मानसिक बल अधिक महत्त्वाचे असते. मुक्कामापेक्षा नियोजनबद्ध प्रवासावर त्यांचा अधिक विश्वास आहे.

Swati says army life is not just a job but a special way of living, where mental strength and self-confidence matter more than physical capacity. She values trusting a well-planned journey more than fixating on the destination.

अलाहाबादला जन्मलेल्या रेखा मिश्रा मुंबईच्या छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराज टर्मिनस येथील रेल्वे पोलीस दलात उपनिरीक्षक आहेत. रेल्वे स्थानकावर भरकटलेल्या ४३४ अल्पवयीन मुलामुलींना त्यांनी प्रेमाने समजावून सुरक्षित त्यांच्या पालकांकडे पोहोचवले.

Born in Allahabad, Rekha Mishra became a Sub-Inspector in the Mumbai Railway Police in 2008. Instead of using police force, she lovingly counselled 434 minor children found wandering at stations, saying 'Will you be my friend?', and returned them safely to their parents, bringing many back into the stream of education.
