डॉ. विजया वाड सांगतात की त्या गिरिजा कीर यांच्या बालसाहित्याबाबत लिहिणार आहेत. खूप लेखन करूनही गिरिजाबाईंच्या लिखाणात तोचतोचपणा नाही, हेच त्यांचे मोठे यश आहे.

Dr. Vijaya Wad says she will write about Girija Kir's children's literature. Despite writing a great deal, Girija Kir's work never grows repetitive, and that, the writer says, is her greatest achievement.

गिरिजाबाईंना चमत्कारापेक्षा मुलांच्या रोजच्या जिव्हाळ्याचे प्रश्न महत्त्वाचे वाटतात. 'इटुकली पिटुकली नाटुकली' या संचातल्या नाटिका व 'एक अर्ज आहे बाप्पा' ही बालनाटिका लेखिकेला विशेष आवडली.

Rather than miracles or fantasy, Girija Kir values the everyday concerns of children's lives. The writer specially mentions the plays in 'Itukli Pitukli Natukli' and the playlet 'Ek Arj Aahe Bappa', noting Girija Kir's skill at creating vivid scenes with only a few characters.

या नाटिकेत मोठी माणसं बाहेर गेल्यावर छोटी मुलं मोठ्यांच्या बॉसिंगबद्दलच्या तक्रारींचा अर्ज देवाला म्हणजे बाप्पाला देण्याचे ठरवतात. शिफॉनची साडी, बरफाचा गोला, भेळ अशा गमतीदार तक्रारी त्यात येतात.

'Ek Arj Aahe Bappa' is set in Sujata and Sadanand's home. With the elders away, the children cannot bear the grown-ups' bossing, so they decide to lay a petition of complaints before God (Bappa). The playful demands (a chiffon sari, an ice gola, bhel) open windows into the children's minds.

मुलांवर चांगले संस्कार व्हावेत म्हणून गिरिजाबाईंनी अहिल्याबाई होळकर, अनुताई वाघ, ताराबाई मोडक, संत गाडगेबाबा, महात्मा जोतीबा फुले अशी सुंदर चरित्रे लिहिली. प्रत्येक चरित्रातून एकेक मोलाचा विचार त्यांनी दिला.

To shape good values in children, Girija Kir wrote biographies of Ahilyabai Holkar, Anutai Wagh, Tarabai Modak, Sant Gadge Baba and Mahatma Jotiba Phule. Saying that carrying forward the work of the great is their true memorial, she gave one important idea and a moving message in each biography.

'तू सावित्री हो!' या पुस्तकातील 'गोष्ट एका माणसाची' ही कथा फार सुंदर आहे. गरीब मधू आईच्या औषधासाठी एकाचे पाकीट मारतो; पण त्यातील चिठ्ठी वाचून त्याचे डोळे उघडतात आणि तो मनुष्य मोठ्या मनाने ते पैसे मधूलाच परत करतो.

In 'Tu Savitri Ho!' the story 'Goshta Eka Manasachi' is exquisite. The poor boy Madhu, helpless about money for his sick mother's operation, picks a man's wallet. A note inside opens his eyes; the man, saying he has just had word of his own mother's death, generously returns the money to Madhu. The writer also praises the free translation 'Phule Phulavnara Mhatara'.

गिरिजाबाईंचा 'झंप्या द ग्रेट' खरोखरीच ग्रेट आहे. 'यडबंबू ढब्बूबू' या मनोरंजक कादंबरीत ढब्बूबू आईच्या शिकवणीप्रमाणे, व्याह्यांसाठी आणलेली मिठाई गरीब भिकाऱ्यांना वाटून टाकतो.

The novel is a step beyond the story. The ever-restless Zampya of 'Zampya the Great' becomes a favourite of young readers. 'Yadbambu Dhabbubu' is delightful: remembering his mother's lesson to keep no one unhappy and to love all, Dhabbubu gives away to beggars the tray of sweets meant for the in-laws.

शेवटी लेखिका म्हणतात की गिरिजाबाईंना शब्दांचे इतके सुंदर दान मिळाले आहे, की 'अनंत हस्ते कमलाकराने, देता किती घेशील दो कराने?' असे वाटते. त्यांच्या संस्कारक्षम लेखणीला लेखिका मानाचा मुजरा करतात.

In closing, Dr. Vijaya Wad says Girija Kir has been granted such a gift of words that one recalls the line 'with countless hands the Lotus-handed gives, how much can you take with only two?' She offers a heartfelt salute to Girija Kir's pen and her value-rich writing.
