आप्पांचे पत्र Appanche Patra

शाळेतील शिपाई आप्पा विद्यार्थ्यांना पत्र लिहितात. ते म्हणतात की मी उपदेश करणारा नाही; घाईमुळे कधी बोलता आले नाही म्हणून हे पत्र लिहीत आहे.

Appa introduces himself as the school peon and says that since the students are always in a hurry, he never got a chance to talk, so he is writing this letter.

आप्पा सांगतात की चिंतेने फक्त कपाळावरच्या आठ्या वाढतात, मार्क्स वाढत नाहीत. शिपाई होऊनही चांगले काम करता येते; कोणतेही काम छोटे नसते.

Appa tells them not to worry needlessly, and explains the dignity of all work: a nurse, a charger, or the person caring for the pitch matters as much as a doctor; no work is small.

आप्पा सांगतात की तुम्ही काय करता यापेक्षा किती मन लावून करता हे महत्त्वाचे. म्हणूनच ग्रंथालयातील एकाही पुस्तकावर धूळ दिसणार नाही, कारण ते तिथे काम करतात.

Giving examples like Bismillah Khan and Sudarshan Pattnaik, Appa says that how lovingly you do something matters more than what you do, and that the spotless library books are proof of his own care.

सगळेच डॉक्टर-इंजिनियर झाले तर कसे चालेल? कुणीतरी फुलपाखरे, मधमाश्या यांचा अभ्यास करावा. झाडे, पक्षी, फुले यांची नावे आपल्याला माहीत नसतात याची आप्पांना खंत वाटते.

Rather than everyone becoming doctors or engineers, Appa urges students to do something different, to learn from butterflies and bees, and laments that we know cartoon names but not the names of trees, birds and flowers.

आप्पा अशा माणसांची उदाहरणे देतात ज्यांनी लोकांच्या घरचे गळणारे नळ तपासून लाखो लीटर पाणी वाचवले, आणि एका मुलाने वाढदिवसाचे पैसे देऊन गरीब मुलांसाठी पूल बांधला.

Appa shares examples of a man who saved lakhs of litres of water by checking leaking taps, and a boy who used his birthday money to build a sturdy bridge for slum children.

प्रत्येकाने दहा झाडे लावली तर भारत जगातला सर्वांत निसर्गसंपन्न देश होईल. घरापुढे कोणती गाडी आहे यापेक्षा घराभोवती किती झाडे आहेत हे महत्त्वाचे आहे.

If each person plants ten trees, India would become the greenest country; Appa says what trees surround your home matters more than what car stands in front of it, and the nation needs people who enrich its own nature.

आप्पा शेवटी सांगतात की जग विचारेल किती गुण मिळाले, पण मी सांगेन तुम्ही किती गुणी आहात. डॉ. कलाम यांना दहावीत किती गुण होते हे कुणाला माहीत नाही, पण ते आदर्श व्यक्ती होते हे सर्वांना माहीत आहे.

Citing Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, Appa ends by saying that how you live and view the world matters more than tenth-standard marks; the world will ask your marks, but he will tell the world how good you are.
