കൊച്ചുദേവദാരു Kochu Devadaru - The Little Cedar Tree

വനപാലകന്റെ വീടിന് മുമ്പിലെ തുറന്ന സ്ഥലത്ത് ദേവദാരുവിന്റെ ഒരു കൊച്ചുതൈ വളർന്നു. വലിയ മരങ്ങളില്ലാത്ത ഒറ്റപ്പെട്ട സ്ഥലം.

A little cedar sapling grew in the open space before the forest guard's house - a lonely spot without tall trees, within human sight.

മഴ, മഞ്ഞ്, വെയിൽ, കാറ്റ് - എല്ലാ കാലാവസ്ഥയും അനുഭവിച്ച് പക്ഷികളും എലികളും ചിത്രശലഭങ്ങളും കൂടെ വളർന്നു.

Growing through rain, snow, sun and dust-storms, the tree lived peacefully with mice, birds and butterflies.

മാഗ് പൈ പുതുവർഷദിനം മനുഷ്യർ ദേവദാരുവിനെ വെട്ടിയെടുക്കുമെന്ന് പറഞ്ഞ് പേടിപ്പിച്ചു. ദേവദാരുവിന്റെ മനസ്സിൽ ഭയം പടർന്നു.

Magpie warned that humans would cut the cedar on New Year's Day. Fear gripped the little tree; buried in snow, it thought no one would see it anymore.

ഡിസംബർ 31-ന് ഒരാൾ വന്ന് മരം കുലുക്കി നോക്കി. ദേവദാരു വെട്ടപ്പെടുമെന്ന് കരുതി ബോധം നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടു.

On December 31 someone came, shook the tree and looked at it. The cedar lost consciousness, believing it would be cut down.

അടുത്ത ദിവസം കണ്ണുതുറന്നപ്പോൾ വെട്ടപ്പെട്ടിട്ടില്ല! വെളിനൂലുകൾ, തോരണങ്ങൾ, സ്വർണനക്ഷത്രം, മിന്നുന്ന ദീപങ്ങൾ - പുതുവത്സരമരമായി അലങ്കരിച്ചിരുന്നു.

Next morning the tree woke still standing. Ribbons, garlands, a gold star and shining lights - it had been turned into a New Year tree, not cut down.

വനപാലകന്റെ കുട്ടികൾ സന്തോഷത്തോടെ അരികിലേക്ക് വന്നു. 'മുറിക്കാതെ' ശുഭാശംസകൾ നൽകി.

The visitor was the forest guard. His children came joyfully, wished the tree well and celebrated without cutting it.

മനുഷ്യൻ വെട്ടിയില്ല - വിശേഷമായി കരുതി. ദേവദാരുവിന്റെ പേടി വ്യർത്ഥമായി; സ്നേഹത്തിന്റെ മഞ്ഞിൽ ചില്ലകൾ നനയുന്നു.

Humans did not destroy the tree but cared for it. Fear vanished; remembering that day, its branches still feel the 'snow' of love.

മരങ്ങൾക്ക് അന്തസ്സുണ്ട്. സ്നേഹിച്ച കാഴ്ചപ്പാട് കാലാവധിക്കപ്പുറവും ജീവിക്കുന്നു.

Even after the guard died and the children moved away, the cedar still stands - love and protection outlast time.
