Summary

Jim Hawkins helps his parents run a quiet seaside inn - until a rough seaman, Billy Bones, takes lodging.

The captain drinks, sings sea shanties and watches for a one-legged man - fear follows him.

A sinister visitor fights Billy; after shock Billy dies of stroke - Jim and mother face danger.

Jim finds coins and an oilskin packet while neighbours seek money owed - courage under pressure.

Blind Pew and men raid the inn seeking the chest - Jim escapes with packet toward Squire Trelawney.

The extract ends with Jim holding what will become the treasure map - moral choices ahead on the Hispaniola.
