Summary
Doha 1: A leader should be like the mouth - alone it eats and drinks but it nourishes all the organs of the body. Likewise a leader should act with wisdom, doing the work themselves but sharing the fruits with all.
Doha 2: God created this world as a mixture of inert and conscious, good and evil. But just as the swan (hansa) drinks only milk and leaves the water in a mixture of milk and water, saints similarly take up good qualities and leave behind vices.
Doha 3: Compassion is the root of dharma; pride is the root of sin. Tulsidas says: never give up compassion as long as there is breath in the body.
Doha 4: In adversity, education, humility and wisdom are one's true companions. The one who trusts in Ram becomes courageous, truthful and virtuous.
Doha 5: If you want light inside and outside your home, place the jewel-lamp of Ram's name on the threshold of your tongue. Just as a lamp on the doorstep illuminates both inside and the courtyard, chanting Ram's name purifies both the inner being and outer conduct.
