ಜೇನು ಕುರುಬರ ತಾಯಿಯು ಕಾಡು ಆನೆಯ ಮಗನು Jenu Kurubara Tayiyu Kadu Aneya Maganu

ಗೀತಾ ಜೇನು ಕುರುಬರ ತಾಯಿ. ಗಂಡ ಕಸುಬು, ಮಾವುತ ಕೆಲಸ. ಮೊದಲು ರಾಜೇಂದ್ರ (ಲಂಬೋದರ) ಆನೆಯನ್ನು ಸಾಕುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.

Geetha the honey-gatherer and her husband first raised an elephant called Rajendra (Lambodara).

ಲಂಬೋದರ ಕಾಡಿನ ರೌಡಿ ಆನೆಯಿಂದ ಗುಂಡೇಟು ತಾಗಿ ನರಳುತ್ತಾ ಸತ್ತಿತು. ಗೀತಾ ತಲೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಣ್ಣೆರಚಿ ದುಃಖಿಸಿದಳು.

Lambodara died from gunshot wounds from a rogue elephant; Geetha mourned and cursed those who failed to protect elephants.

ಪಾರೆಸ್ಸಿನ ರೆಂಜರ್ ಸಾಹೇಬರು ಆನೆ ಮರಿಗೆ «ಶಿವ» ಎಂದು ಹೆಸರಿಟ್ಟು ಗೀತಾಳ ವಶಕ್ಕೆ ಕೊಟ್ಟರು.

The planter's ranger named the calf Shiva and handed him to Geetha and her husband.

ರಾತ್ರಿ ಎರಡು ಬಾರಿ ಎದ್ದು ಹಾಲು; ಕಕ್ಕ ಬಳಿ; ಹಂಡೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ನಾನ; ಹಾಲು ಕುಡಿಸಿ ಉಗಿದರೆ ಬೈದು ನಂತರ «ಅಯ್ಯೋ ನಿನ್ನ ಬೈದೇನಾ ಕೂಸು ರಾಜ» ಎಂದು ಮರುಗುತ್ತಾಳೆ.

She wakes twice at night for milk, cleans the calf, bathes it, scolds then regrets if it spits the feed.

ಶಿವ ತುರುಬು ಎಳೆಯುತ್ತಾನೆ, ಹಾಕಿ ಬಟ್ಟೆ ಮೇಲೆ ಪಾದ ಚಿಹ್ನೆ ಬಿಡುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಗೀತಾ ಸಿಟ್ಟಿನಿಂದ ಬಿದಿರು ಅಂಗಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಸೆರೆಹಾಕುತ್ತಾಳೆ.

Shiva pulls her hair-bun and stamps on laundry; Geetha scolds and pens him in the bamboo yard.

ಶಿವನ ಕಣ್ಣಲ್ಲಿ ನೀರು ಬಂದಾಗ «ಸೋಂಕು ಅಲ್ಲ - ತಾಯಿಯ ನೆನಪು» ಎಂದು ಗೀತಾ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾಳೆ.

When Shiva's eyes fill with tears Geetha says it is not illness but memory of his mother.

ಕಾವೇರಿ ತೀರದ ಅಮ್ಮಾಳಮ್ಮನ ಬಳಿ ಶಿವನನ್ನು ಬದುಕಿಸಿ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಪಟ್ಟದಾನೆ ಮಾಡಲು ಹರಕೆ.

She prays at Ammalamma by the Kaveri to keep Shiva alive and make him a fine tusker.

«ಈ ಶಿವನನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸಿ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಪಟ್ಟದಾನೆ ಮಾಡಿಯೇ ಜೀವ ಬಿಡುವೆ» - ಗೀತಾಳ ಮನಸ್ಸು.

Geetha's wish is to raise Shiva into a great tusker before she dies.
