ಸಿರಿಯನಿನ್ನೇನ ಬಣ್ಣಿಪೆನು Siriyaninnena Bannipenu

ಕವಿ ಗುರುವನ್ನು ನೆನೆಯುತ್ತಾನೆ. 'ಧ್ಯಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಬೇಸರವಾದಾಗ ನಿನ್ನನ್ನೇ ಮೊದಲು ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡು ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಕಥೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತೇನೆ; ಇದು ನಿನ್ನ ಅಪ್ಪಣೆ, ನನ್ನ ಒಡೆಯಾ' ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾನೆ.

The poet humbly prays to his guru: when meditation tires him, he will take the guru as his beginning and tell a story in Kannada; he offers it as the guru's own command, addressing him as his lord.

ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರು 'ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿದೆ' ಎನ್ನಬೇಕು, ತೆಲುಗರು 'ಮಂಚಿದಿ' (ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದು) ಎನ್ನಬೇಕು, ತುಳುವರು 'ಎಂಚ ಪೊರ್ಲಾಂಡ್' (ಎಷ್ಟು ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿದೆ) ಎನ್ನಬೇಕು; ಹೀಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಮನಸಾರೆ ಕೇಳಬೇಕೆಂದು ಕವಿಯ ಆಸೆ.

The poet wishes speakers of many tongues to praise his work: Kannadigas to say it is fine, Telugus to say manchidi (it is good), Tuluvas to say enchaporlaand (how lovely it is); all should listen with full delight.

ಭೂಮಿಗೇ ಶೃಂಗಾರವಾದಂತಿರುವ ಅಯೋಧ್ಯಾ ನಗರದಲ್ಲಿ, ಮೂರು ಲೋಕಗಳೂ ಹೊಗಳುವಂತೆ ಭರತ ಚಕ್ರವರ್ತಿ ಸುಖವಾಗಿ ಬಾಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದನು. ಆ ಸಿರಿಯನ್ನು ನಾನು ಇನ್ನೇನು ಬಣ್ಣಿಸಲಿ ಎಂದು ಕವಿ ಬೆರಗಾಗುತ್ತಾನೆ.

In Ayodhya, which is like an ornament to the whole earth, emperor Bharata lived in happiness, praised by all three worlds; the poet wonders how he could ever describe that splendour (siri).

ಭರತನು ಪುರುಪರಮೇಶನ (ಆದಿ ತೀರ್ಥಂಕರನ) ಹಿರಿಯ ಮಗ, ಭೂಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಒಬ್ಬನೇ ರಾಜ. ತಿರುಗಿ ನೋಡಿದರೆ ಕ್ಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಕಾಣುವಂಥವನು; ಅಂಥ ಭರತನ ಮಹಿಮೆಯನ್ನು ಹೇಳಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವೇ ಎಂದು ಕವಿ ಕೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ.

Bharata is the eldest son of Puruparamesha, the sole king of the human world; one for whom even a turned glance grants liberation in an instant. The poet asks whether such a one's greatness can be told at all.

ಆ ಒಡೆಯನು ಒಂದು ದಿನ ಬೆಳಗ್ಗೆ ಎದ್ದು ದೇವತಾರ್ಚನೆ ಮಾಡಿ, ಚಾವಡಿಗೆ ಬಂದು ಓಲಗ (ರಾಜಸಭೆ) ಕೂಡಿದನು. ಆ ಶ್ರೀವಿಲಾಸವನ್ನು ಏನೆಂದು ಹೇಳಲಿ ಎಂದು ಕವಿ ಉದ್ಗರಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ.

One day at dawn the lord rose, performed worship of the gods, came to the audience hall and held his court; the poet exclaims, how can I describe that royal splendour.

ನವರತ್ನಗಳಿಂದಲೂ ಚಿನ್ನದಿಂದಲೂ ಕಟ್ಟಿದ ಆಸ್ಥಾನ ಭವನದಲ್ಲಿ, ಆ ರಾಜರತ್ನ ಭರತನು ರತ್ನಪೀಠದ ಮೇಲೆ ಕಾಂತಿಯಿಂದ ಹೊಳೆಯುತ್ತ ದೇವೇಂದ್ರನಂತೆ ಶೋಭಿಸಿದನು.

In the court hall said to be built of the nine gems and gold, that jewel-among-kings Bharata shone with radiance upon his jewelled seat, beautiful as Indra, lord of the gods.

ಬೆಳ್ಳಗೆ ಹೊಳೆಯುವ ಉದ್ದನೆಯ ಚಾಮರಗಳ ಸಾಲಿನ ನಡುವೆ, ಬಿಳಿ ಮೋಡಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣಿಸಿ ಮರೆಯಾಗುವ ಚಂದ್ರ-ಸೂರ್ಯರಂತೆ ಭರತ ಶೋಭಿಸಿದನು. ತುಂಬಿದ ಸಭೆಯೆಲ್ಲ ರಾಜನನ್ನೇ ನೋಡುತ್ತ ಬೇರೆ ಯಾವ ಆಸೆಯನ್ನೂ ಮರೆತಿತ್ತು.

Amid rows of long, white-gleaming chamaras (fly-whisks), he shone like the moon or the sun glimpsed and hidden in moving white clouds; as the lotus turns to the sun and the blue lotus to the moon, the whole crowded assembly gazed at the king and forgot every other longing.
