ಪ್ರವಾಸ ಮಾಡುವಾಗ ಕೇಳಿದ, ನೋಡಿದ, ಅನುಭವಿಸಿದ ಸಂಗತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಸುಂದರವಾಗಿ ಬರೆಯುವುದೇ ಪ್ರವಾಸಕಥನ. "ದೇಶ ಸುತ್ತಿ ನೋಡು, ಕೋಶ ಓದಿ ನೋಡು" ಎಂಬ ಮಾತಿನಂತೆ ಪ್ರವಾಸ ನಮ್ಮ ಅನುಭವವನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

Travel writing is a modern literary form. Recording beautifully what one hears, sees and experiences on a journey is an art. Travel widens experience and gives a varied vision of life.

ಲಂಡನ್ ಒಂದು ಸ್ವತಂತ್ರ ಜಗತ್ತಿನಂತೆ ಇದೆ. ರಸ್ತೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹಳ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರ, ಗದ್ದಲ. ಅದನ್ನು ತಪ್ಪಿಸಲು ನೆಲದ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಭೂಗರ್ಭ ರೈಲನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕೆಲವೊಮ್ಮೆ ಐವತ್ತು ಅಡಿ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಹೋಗಿರುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಮೇಲೆ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಹೋಗಲು ತಾನಾಗಿ ತಿರುಗುವ ಮೆಟ್ಟಲುಗಳನ್ನು (ಎಸ್ಕೆಲೇಟರ್) ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

London is like a world of its own. The streets are so packed with trade that trams and buses run late, so to avoid this they laid an electric railway underground, sometimes fifty feet below the surface, with moving stairs (escalators) to go up and down with ease.

In the market the Woolworth stationery shop is worth seeing. Everything is sold here from one penny to six pence: boots, socks, soap, medicine, books, cooking pots, photos, even war material. Like an ancient epic, it is a great treasury.

ಲಂಡನ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಗಂಡಿಗಿಂತ ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನವರು ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವಂತೆ ಕಾಣುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಂಗಡಿ, ಉಪಾಹಾರಗೃಹ, ಸಿನಿಮಾ ಮಂದಿರ ಎಲ್ಲ ಕಡೆ ಹೆಣ್ಣುಮಕ್ಕಳೇ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಹೆಣ್ಣುಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು ಬಹಳ ಆದರದಿಂದ ನಡೆಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ ಇಲ್ಲಿದೆ.

Here women seem to outnumber men at work. In all the shops women serve; in restaurants there are no waiters, and even those who find your seat in the cinema are women. The English believe that the height of a culture that treats women with great respect is to be seen in England itself.

ಇಂಡಿಯಾ ಆಫೀಸಿನ ಹತ್ತಿರ ಬ್ಯಾಂಕ್, ದೊಡ್ಡ ಕಂಪೆನಿಗಳ ಕಚೇರಿಗಳಿವೆ. ಚೇರಿಂಗ್ ಕ್ರಾಸ್ ಎಂಬ ಬೀದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಆಂಗ್ಲರ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಯದ ವೈಭವ ಕಾಣುತ್ತದೆ. ಟ್ರಾಫಲ್ಗರ್ ಸ್ಕ್ವೇರ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಲ್ಸನ್‌ನ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯಿದೆ. ಬೀದಿಬೀದಿಗೆ ದೇಶಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ದುಡಿದ ಮಹಾಪುರುಷರ ಮೂರ್ತಿಗಳಿವೆ.

Near the India Office stand countless banks and the offices of great companies. In Charing Cross the splendour of the English empire is seen. In Trafalgar Square stands Nelson's statue, and a little away Wellington's. On every street the statues of historic men seem to say, Guard the honour of your country.

ವೆಸ್ಟ್‌ಮಿನ್‌ಸ್ಟರ್ ಅಬೆ ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನಾ ಮಂದಿರ ಸಾವಿರ ವರ್ಷ ಹಳೆಯದು. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂತರು, ರಾಜರು, ಕವಿಗಳ ಸ್ಮಾರಕಗಳಿವೆ. "ಪೊಯೆಟ್ಸ್ ಕಾರ್ನರ್" ಎಂಬ ಕವಿಗಳ ಮೂಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಿಪ್ಲಿಂಗ್, ಹಾರ್ಡಿ, ಜಾನ್ಸನ್, ವರ್ಡ್ಸ್‌ವರ್ತ್ ಮೊದಲಾದ ಕವಿಗಳ ಸಮಾಧಿಗಳಿವೆ. ಕಲ್ಲಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ನಡೆಯುವಾಗ ಇತಿಹಾಸವನ್ನೇ ದಾಟಿದಂತಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

Westminster Abbey is at least a thousand years old. Saints, sovereigns and great poets lie here. In the Poets' Corner are the graves of Kipling, Hardy, Macaulay, Johnson, Goldsmith, Dryden and Wordsworth. Walking over these stones, at every step we cross history.

ರಾಜವಿಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಂಹದೆದೆಯ ರಿಚರ್ಡ್, ರಾಣಿ ಎಲಿಜಬೆತ್ ಮೊದಲಾದ ಅರಸರ ಗೋರಿಗಳಿವೆ. ಸಾಮ್ರಾಟರ ಪಟ್ಟಾಭಿಷೇಕದ ಸಿಂಹಾಸನದಲ್ಲಿ "ಸ್ಟೋನ್ ಆಫ್ ಸ್ಕೋನ್" ಎಂಬ ಕಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಪ್ರವಾಸದಿಂದ ತಮ್ಮ ಮನಸ್ಸು ಎಷ್ಟು ಅರಳಿತು ಎಂದು ಲೇಖಕರು ನೆನೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. "ಪ್ರವಾಸವು ಶಿಕ್ಷಣದ ಒಂದು ಭಾಗ" ಎಂಬ ಬೇಕನ್‌ನ ಮಾತು ನೆನಪಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

In the royal section lie Richard the Lionheart, Edward II, Queen Elizabeth, James I and other kings and queens. The coronation throne holds a stone called the Stone of Scone, which Edward III seems to have brought from Scotland. The writer reflects how travel widened his mind and vision, recalling Bacon's saying that travel is a part of education.
