ಕೌರವೇಂದ್ರನ ಕೊಂದೆ ನೀನು Kauravendrana Konde Ninu

ಸೂರ್ಯನ ಮಗನಾದ ಕರ್ಣನ ಬಳಿ ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಮೈದುನತನದ ಸರಸದ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದನು. ರಾಕ್ಷಸರ ಶತ್ರುವಾದ ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಕರ್ಣನನ್ನು ಹತ್ತಿರ ಎಳೆದು ರಥದ ಪೀಠದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೂರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡನು. ಕರ್ಣ, ನಿಮ್ಮ ಪಾದಗಳ ಬಳಿ ಕುಳಿತು ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುವ ಭಾಗ್ಯ ನನಗೆಲ್ಲಿ, ದೇವ, ನಾನು ಅಂಜುತ್ತೇನೆ ಎಂದನು. ಆಗ ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಅವನನ್ನು ತೊಡೆಗೆ ತಾಗುವಷ್ಟು ಹತ್ತಿರ ಸೆಳೆದು ಮಾತು ಆರಂಭಿಸಿದನು.

Krishna (the foe of demons) draws Karna, the son of the Sun, into a teasing, in-law style talk, pulls him close and seats him on the chariot seat. When Karna says, How could I deserve to serve at your feet, O Lord, I am afraid, Krishna draws him knee to knee and begins to speak.

ಎಲೈ ಕರ್ಣ, ನಮ್ಮ ನಡುವೆ ಯಾವ ಭೇದವೂ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಯಾದವರಿಗೂ ಕೌರವರಿಗೂ ಸಂಬಂಧ ಬೆಸೆಯುವುದಾದರೆ, ವಂಶದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿನ್ನ ಮೊದಲಿಗ ಸ್ಥಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಎರಡು ಮಾತಿಲ್ಲ, ನಿನ್ನಾಣೆ. ನೀನೇ ಭೂಮಿಗೆ ಒಡೆಯನಾಗಬೇಕಾದವನು, ಆದರೆ ಆ ವಿಷಯ ನಿನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ತಿಳಿದಿಲ್ಲ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತ, ರಾಕ್ಷಸಸಂಹಾರಕ ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಸೂರ್ಯಪುತ್ರನ ಕಿವಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಭಯವನ್ನು ಬಿತ್ತಿದನು.

O Karna, there is no difference between us; if Yadavas and Kauravas were to be joined, you are the foremost of the lineage, no two ways about it. You are the rightful lord of the earth, but you do not yet know what has happened, says Krishna, and so the slayer of demons sows fear in the Sun-son's ear.

ಕುಂತಿ ಲಲನೆಯಾಗಿ ಪಡೆದ ಐದು ಮಂತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊದಲಿನದರಿಂದ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದವನು ನೀನು. ನಿನ್ನ ತಮ್ಮ ಯುಧಿಷ್ಠಿರ, ಮೂರನೆಯವನು ಬಲಶಾಲಿ ಭೀಮ, ನಾಲ್ಕನೆಯವನು ಅರ್ಜುನ. ಐದನೆಯ ಮಂತ್ರ ಮಾದ್ರಿಗೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕು ಅದರಿಂದ ನಕುಲ ಸಹದೇವ ಎಂಬ ಅವಳಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಹುಟ್ಟಿದರು.

Of the five mantras Kunti received, you were born of the first; next come Yudhishthira, then the mighty Bhima as the third, Arjuna as the fourth; the fifth mantra went to Madri, and from that single mantra the twins Nakula and Sahadeva were born.

ನಿನಗೆ ಹಸ್ತಿನಾಪುರದ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಘನತೆಯನ್ನು ಕೊಡಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಪಾಂಡವರೂ ಕೌರವರೂ ಎಲ್ಲ ರಾಜರೂ ನಿನ್ನ ಸಿಂಹಾಸನವನ್ನು ಸೇವಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಎರಡೂ ಸಂತತಿಯವರು ನಿನಗೆ ಸೇವಕರಾಗಿರುವಾಗ, ಅದನ್ನು ಒಪ್ಪದೆ ನೀನು ದುರ್ಯೋಧನನ ಎಂಜಲ ತಾಂಬೂಲಕ್ಕೆ ಕೈ ಚಾಚುತ್ತೀಯಾ? ಹೇಳು ಎಂದನು.

I will give you the glory of the kingdom of Hastinapura; both the Pandava and the Kaurava kings will wait upon your throne. When both lineages would be your servants, will you refuse it and instead reach out your hand for Duryodhana's leftover betel? Tell me, he said.

ನಿನ್ನ ಎಡಗಡೆ ಕೌರವ ರಾಜರ ಗುಂಪು, ಬಲಗಡೆ ಪಾಂಡವರ ಗುಂಪು, ಎದುರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾದ್ರ, ಮಾಗಧ, ಯಾದವ ಮುಂತಾದ ರಾಜರು. ಅವರ ನಡುವೆ ನೀನು ಸಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಶೋಭಿಸುತ್ತೀಯ. ಇಂತಹ ದೊಡ್ಡ ವೈಭವವನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು, ದುರ್ಯೋಧನ ಕರೆದಾಗ ಒಡೆಯಾ ಪ್ರಸಾದ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತ ನಿಲ್ಲುವುದು ನಿನಗೆ ಕಷ್ಟ ಅಲ್ಲವೇ ಎಂದನು.

On your left the throng of Kaurava lords, on your right the throng of Pandavas, before you the Madra, Magadha, Yadava and other kings; to cast away such splendour of presiding in the court, and merely to say "Master, your grace" whenever Duryodhana calls, that is hard for you, he said.

ಈ ಮಾತುಗಳಿಂದ ಕರ್ಣನ ಗಂಟಲು ಬಿಗಿಯಿತು, ಕಣ್ಣೀರು ತುಂಬಿ ಹರಿಯಿತು, ಅವನು ಬಹಳ ನೊಂದನು. ಅಯ್ಯೋ, ದುರ್ಯೋಧನನಿಗೆ ಕೇಡಾಯಿತೆ ಎಂದು ಮನದಲ್ಲಿ ಚಿಂತಿಸಿದನು. ಕೃಷ್ಣನೆಂಬ ಶತ್ರು ಹೊಗೆ ತೋರಿಸಿ, ಬೆಂಕಿ ಹೊತ್ತಿಸದೆ ಸುಮ್ಮನೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಾನೆಯೇ? ಜನ್ಮರಹಸ್ಯ ಹೇಳಿ ನನ್ನ ವಂಶವನ್ನೇ ಕೊಂದನಲ್ಲ, ಇನ್ನು ಹಲವು ಮಾತೇನು ಎಂದು ಚಿಂತಿಸಿದನು.

His throat tightened, tears welled up and he grieved deeply; alas, has ruin come upon Duryodhana, he thought within. Will the enmity of Krishna show only smoke and not burn, then pass away in vain? By revealing the secret he has slain my whole lineage, what need of many more words, he thought.

ಏನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತೀ ಕರ್ಣ, ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಯಾವ ಗ್ಲಾನಿ, ಯಾವ ತಳಮಳ? ಕುಂತಿಯ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಸೇವೆಯನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ನಿನಗೆ ಇಷ್ಟವಿಲ್ಲವೇ? ಇದರಿಂದ ನಿನಗೆ ಯಾವ ಹಾನಿಯೂ ಇಲ್ಲ, ನನ್ನಾಣೆ. ಮಾತಾಡು, ಮಾತಾಡು, ಮೌನವೇಕೆ? ಹುಚ್ಚುತನ ಬೇಡ, ನಾನು ನಿನ್ನ ಕೇಡನ್ನು ಬಯಸುವವನಲ್ಲ, ಕೇಳು ಎಂದನು.

What do you say, Karna, what distress weighs on your mind? Does it not please you to be served by the sons of Kunti? There is no harm in this, I swear; speak, speak; why this silence, do not be foolish, I do not wish you misfortune, listen, he said.

ಮಾಧವ, ನೀನು ಹುಚ್ಚನೋ! ಭೂಮಿಯ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಸಿರಿಗೆ ನಾನು ಸೋಲುವವನಲ್ಲ. ಕುಂತಿಯ ಮಕ್ಕಳಾಗಲಿ ದುರ್ಯೋಧನನಾಗಲಿ ನನಗೆ ಸೇವೆ ಮಾಡಬೇಕೆಂಬ ಮನಸ್ಸು ನನಗಿಲ್ಲ. ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಸಾಕಿ ಸಲಹಿದ ಒಡೆಯ ದುರ್ಯೋಧನನ ಶತ್ರುಗಳ ತಲೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕತ್ತರಿಸಿ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಒಪ್ಪಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ ಎಂಬ ಹಂಬಲದಲ್ಲಿ ನಾನು ಇದ್ದೇನೆ; ನೀನೋ ಕೌರವೇಂದ್ರನನ್ನು (ದುರ್ಯೋಧನನನ್ನು) ಕೊಂದೆ ಎಂದನು.

Madhava, you are mad! I will not be conquered by the wealth of an earthly kingdom; I have no wish to be served either by the sons of Kunti or by Duryodhana. I live for the single purpose of cutting off the heads of the enemies of the master who reared me and offering them to him; you, he says, have killed Kauravendra (Duryodhana).

ವೀರ ಕೌರವರಾಯ ದುರ್ಯೋಧನನೇ ನನ್ನ ದಾತಾರ. ಅವನ ಶತ್ರುವೇ ನನ್ನ ಶತ್ರು, ಅವನ ಹೊಗಳಿಕೆಯೇ ನನ್ನ ಹೊಗಳಿಕೆ; ಅವನು ಹೇಗೋ ನಾನು ಹಾಗೆ ಆಗಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಕೃಷ್ಣ, ಕೇಳು, ನಾಳೆ ಯುದ್ಧದ ರಣರಂಗದಲ್ಲಿ ನನ್ನ ಬಾಹುಬಲದ ಶೌರ್ಯವನ್ನು ಪಾಂಡವರ ಮೇಲೆ ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ ಎಂದನು.

The valiant Kaurava king is my benefactor; his enemy is my enemy, his praise is my praise, I am bound to the Kuru king as he is. Listen, Krishna, tomorrow in the heart of battle I will show the fullness of my own arm's valour upon the sons of Pandu.

ನಾಳಿನ ಮಹಾಭಾರತ ಯುದ್ಧವು ಮಾರಿಗೆ (ಸಾವಿನ ದೇವತೆಗೆ) ಔತಣವಾಯಿತು. ಚತುರಂಗ ಸೈನ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ದುರ್ಯೋಧನನ ಪರವಾಗಿ ನಿಂತು, ರಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೋಟಿ ವೀರರನ್ನು ಸಂಹರಿಸಿ, ಒಡೆಯನ ಅಗತ್ಯಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ನನ್ನ ದೇಹವನ್ನೇ ಮುಡಿಪಾಗಿಡುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಆದರೆ ಸೂರ್ಯನ ಆಣೆ, ನಿನ್ನ ಐವರು ವೀರ ಪಾಂಡವರನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ನಾನು ನೋಯಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದನು.

Tomorrow's Bharata war has become a feast for the death-goddess; standing with the fourfold army on Duryodhana's side, I will destroy crores of warriors and fling my very body into my master's need. But by the oath of the Sun, friend of the lotus, I will not harm your five Pandava heroes.
