ಎದೆಗೆ ಬಿದ್ದ ಅಕ್ಷರ Edege Bidda Akshara

ಕವಿ ಸಿದ್ಧಲಿಂಗಯ್ಯ ಲೇಖಕರಿಗೆ ಒಂದು ಕತೆ ಹೇಳಿದರು. ಒಂದು ಗ್ರಾಮದ ಜನ ತಮ್ಮ ದೇವತೆಗೆ ಗುಡಿ ಕಟ್ಟಲು ಆರಂಭಿಸಿದರು. ಗುಡಿ ಚಾವಣಿ ಮಟ್ಟಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದಾಗ ದೇವತೆ ಮಂಚಮ್ಮ ಒಬ್ಬನ ಮೈಮೇಲೆ ಬಂದು ಕೆಲಸ ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸಲು ಹೇಳಿದಳು.

In a story poet Siddalingayya told the writer, the people of a village come together to build a temple for their village goddess Manchamma. When the temple reaches roof level, the goddess possesses one man and cries out to them to stop the work.

ದೇವತೆ ಜನರನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದಳು: 'ನಿಮಗೆಲ್ಲ ಮನೆ ಇದೆಯಾ?' ಒಬ್ಬ 'ನನಗಿಲ್ಲ ತಾಯಿ' ಎಂದ. ಆಗ ದೇವತೆ 'ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಮನೆ ಆಗುವವರೆಗೆ ನನಗೂ ಮನೆ ಬೇಡ' ಎಂದಳು. ಹೀಗೆ ಚಾವಣಿ ಇಲ್ಲದ ಗುಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮನೆಮಂಚಮ್ಮ ಇಂದಿಗೂ ಪೂಜೆಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾಳೆ.

When the goddess asks whether all of them have homes, one man says, 'I have none, Mother.' She replies, 'Then until everyone has a home, I too want no home.' So Manchamma becomes Manemanchamma, and she is worshipped to this day in a temple without a roof. The writer says that placing the compassionate, egalitarian Buddha in such a roofless temple would make that his own god.

ಲೇಖಕರು ಹಳಕಟ್ಟಿಯವರ 'ಶಿವಾನುಭವ ಶಬ್ದಕೋಶ' ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಓದಿದರು. ವಚನಕಾರರ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಅರಿವು ಎಂದರೆ ಬರೀ ತಿಳಿವಳಿಕೆ ಅಲ್ಲ. ಅದು ಕ್ರಿಯೆಯ ಅನುಭವದಿಂದ ಹುಟ್ಟುತ್ತದೆ. ನಡೆಯಿಂದ ನುಡಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದರೆ ಅದೇ ನಿಜವಾದ ಅರಿವು.

Reading Halakatti's 'Shivanubhava Shabdakosha,' the writer is struck by its idea of awareness. For the Vachana poets, awareness is not mere knowledge or information; it springs from the experience of action. It is not something merely heard, nor logic. When word is born of deed, that is awareness.

ವಚನಕಾರರು ಸುತ್ತಮುತ್ತಲ ದೇವರುಗಳನ್ನು ದೇವರೆಂದು ಭಾವಿಸಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವರವರ ಪ್ರಜ್ಞೆಯೇ ಅವರಿಗೆ ದೇವರಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಪ್ರಜ್ಞೆಯ ಮುಂದೆ ಸುಳ್ಳು ಹೇಳಲಾಗದು. ಅದೇ ಕಷ್ಟ. ತಮ್ಮ ಕಷ್ಟ ಸುಖ, ದುಃಖ, ಏಳುಬೀಳುಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಜ್ಞೆಯ ಮುಂದೆ ಹೇಳಿಕೊಂಡ ಒದ್ದಾಟಕ್ಕೆ ಅವರು ನುಡಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟರು. ಅದೇ ವಚನ.

For each Vachana poet, his own conscience was his god. To take one's conscience as god is like holding burning fire on one's head, for before one's conscience one cannot lie. Wrestling with their joys, sorrows and struggles before that conscience, the Vachana poets gave voice to that struggle, and that became their fire-like vachanas.

ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗದ ಮನೋವೈದ್ಯ ಡಾ. ಅಶೋಕ ಪೈ ಒಂದು ಸಂಶೋಧನಾ ಸತ್ಯ ಹೇಳಿದರು. ಒಂದು ಕೋಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಜನ ಟೆಲಿವಿಷನ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಲೆ ದೃಶ್ಯ ನೋಡಿ ದುಃಖಗೊಂಡರೆ, ಪಕ್ಕದ ಕೋಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅದನ್ನು ನೋಡದವರ ಮನಸ್ಸೂ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ದುಗುಡಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ. ನೃತ್ಯ ದೃಶ್ಯ ಬಂದಾಗ ಪಕ್ಕದವರಿಗೂ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಸಂತೋಷ ಆಗುತ್ತದೆ.

Dr. Ashok Pai, a psychiatrist from Shivamogga, shared a research finding about the mind. People in one room watch television; in the next room others, unaware, are by themselves. When a murder scene appears, the grief of the viewers reaches the minds of those in the next room and slightly troubles them; when a dance scene appears, the next room's people too feel a little joy.

ಈ ಸತ್ಯ ಹೇಳುವುದು ಇಷ್ಟೇ: ಯಾವ ಜೀವಿಯೂ ತನ್ನಷ್ಟಕ್ಕೆ ತಾನಿಲ್ಲ. ಒಂದು ಜೀವಿಗೆ ಆಗುವ ದುಃಖ ಎಲ್ಲ ಜೀವಿಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ಕಂಪನ ಉಂಟು ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಅನುಕಂಪನ ಇಡೀ ಜೀವಸಂಕುಲವನ್ನೇ ಒಂದು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಬುದ್ಧನ ಕಾರುಣ್ಯ ಇಲ್ಲಿಂದಲೇ ಮೂಡಿರಬಹುದು.

What this truth tells us is that no living being exists for itself alone. The sorrow that befalls any one being sets up a vibration in all beings around it. This shared vibration declares the whole web of life to be one. The Buddha's compassion may well have arisen from here.

ಕೊಲೆ, ಸುಲಿಗೆ, ದ್ವೇಷ, ಅಸೂಯೆಗಳಿಂದ ಜಗತ್ತು ನರಳುತ್ತಿದೆ. ನಮ್ಮೊಳಗೆ ಮೂರ್ಛೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಕಾರುಣ್ಯವನ್ನು ನಾವು ಎಚ್ಚರಗೊಳಿಸಬೇಕು. ಈ ಎಳೆ ಹಿಡಿದು ಜಾಗತೀಕರಣವನ್ನೂ ರೂಪಿಸಬೇಕು. ಆಗ ಮಾತ್ರ ಅದು ನಿಜವಾದ ಜಾಗತೀಕರಣ. ಕಾರುಣ್ಯ, ಸಮತೆ, ಪ್ರಜ್ಞೆಗಳೇ ದೇವರು.

A world tormented by murder, plunder, hatred and envy injures its own deep collective mind, in which everyone dwells. We humans must awaken the compassion that lies dormant within us, and shape globalization by holding to this thread; only then is it true globalization. Compassion, equality and conscience are the gods that must be awakened.
