पहली बूँद Pehli Boond (The First Drop)

यह वर्षा ऋतु का पहला दिन था, जब पहली बूँद धरती पर गिरी। धरती से एक अंकुर फूट पड़ा, जैसे वह नई ज़िंदगी की अँगड़ाई ले रहा हो। धरती के सूखे होंठों पर यह बूँद अमृत के समान गिरी। धरती के शरीर के रोयों जैसी हरी दूब खुशी से पुलकित होकर मुस्कुरा उठी। पहली बूँद धरती पर आ गई।

It was the first day of the monsoon (pavas) when the first drop fell upon the earth. A shoot (ankur) burst forth from the ground, stretching itself awake with new life. The drop fell like nectar (amrit) on the earth's parched lips. The green durva grass, like the fine hair on the earth's body, thrilled with joy and smiled. The first drop had arrived on the earth.

आकाश में एक उड़ता हुआ सागर (यानी बादल) है, जिसने बिजली के सुनहरे पंख लगा लिए हैं। बादल नगाड़े बजाकर धरती की जवानी (तरुणाई) को जगा रहे हैं। पहली बूँद धरती पर आ गई।

A flying ocean (the cloud) soars in the sky, as if it had fitted golden wings made of lightning. The clouds beat drums (nagade) to awaken the youthful freshness (tarunai) of the earth. The first drop had arrived on the earth.

यह आकाश नीली आँखों जैसा है, और ये बादल उन आँखों की काली पुतलियों जैसे हैं। करुणा से पिघलकर बादलों ने आँसू बहाए (यानी बारिश की), जिससे धरती की बहुत पुरानी प्यास बुझ गई। बूढ़ी हो चुकी धरती फिर से हरी-भरी (शस्य-श्यामला) बनने को ललचा उठी। पहली बूँद धरती पर आ गई।

The sky is like blue eyes, and these clouds are like their black pupils. Melting with compassion, they shed tears (the rain), quenching the earth's age-old thirst. The aged earth grew eager to become green and lush (shasya-shyamala) once again. The first drop had arrived on the earth.
