કુદરતી Kudrati (Quite Naturally - a One-Act Play)

બાબુ બેહોશ ખાટલા પર પડ્યો છે; સગાં માની લે છે કે એ મરી ગયો.

As the play opens, Babu lies faint on the cot. Harilal, Kashi, Chandru and other relatives gather round. Harilal nudges him - 'This Babu is alive, look, his eyelids move!' But the others assume Babu is dead, and a great bustle begins in the house.

કાશી રડે છે, ચંદ્રુ દોડે છે, પિતા શોકમાં - બધાં મૃત્યુ માની ગભરાય છે.

Kashi breaks into loud wailing, Chandru runs for a fan and water, and Krupashankar (Babu's father) lays a hand on his head crying 'My Babu!' Someone feels the pulse, someone calls for a doctor - all are thrown into disarray by the assumption of death. The playwright presents this bustle in a comic light.

બાબુ આંખ ખોલે છે - એને કંઈ થયું જ નથી, માત્ર શરદી હતી!

As they wait for the doctor, Babu slowly opens his eyes! Everyone is stunned. Harilal asks - 'How are you, Babu?' Recovering, Babu says nothing was wrong - he had merely caught a cold and a heavy head, had fallen and fainted.

બાબુ મજાકમાં 'સ્વર્ગ જઈ આવ્યો' કહે છે; બધાંની વ્યર્થ દોડધામ પર હળવો કટાક્ષ.

Babu jokes that he had been to 'heaven', met the angels, and is now named 'Devang'! Seeing that all the relatives' bustle and wailing was for nothing, everyone bursts out laughing. The playwright suggests how 'naturally' - yet often with exaggeration - people react to death, and this gentle satire is the heart of the play.
