ગોદ માતની ક્યાં? God Matni Kya? (Where Is a Mother's Lap?)

છત અને પથારી તો મળશે, પણ માની ગોદ ને માની સોડ જેવી હૂંફ ક્યાં?

At the song's start the poet says - a roof over the head can be had, a bed to sleep on too, but where will one find the warmth of a mother's lap and her side? Outer comforts come, but a mother's love does not.

રસ્તો, રાહત, ચાંદ-તારા મળશે, પણ હેતભરી 'માની આંખો' ક્યાં?

The poet goes on - a road to walk will be found, and comfort on it too; the moon, sun and stars are there in the sky. But where can one find the loving gaze of 'a mother's eyes'? Even the world's light pales before the tenderness in a mother's eyes.

પાંદડાં-ફૂલ, સંગીત, હજાર હાથ મળે - પણ માનો પાલવ, ટહુકો ને છાતી ક્યાં?

Leaves and flowers will be found, but where a mother's sheltering 'palav' (the edge of her sari)? Notes, rhythm and music will come, but where the loving 'tahuko' (call) of a mother's voice? A thousand hands may help, but where a place like a mother's bosom?

દુનિયા છાંયડી-હૂંફ આપે, પણ માની છાયા ને માની માયા જેવી મમતા ક્યાંય નહીં.

In summer a wayside water-stall's coolness and shade will come, but where a mother's 'chhaya' (sheltering shade)? In biting winter, where the warmth-giving 'maya' (love) of a mother? Thus in each verse the world gives everything, yet nothing like a mother's love - and that is the song's central feeling.
