વીરભૂમિ Land of the Brave (Virbhumi)

ગરીબ આદિવાસીઓ પર અંગ્રેજો અને જમીનદારોનો જુલમ વધી ગયો હતો.

The play is set against the freedom struggle. The injustice and oppression of the British and the landlords over the poor Adivasis of the Pal-Dangvania region of Sabarkantha had grown unbearable. They were crushed by fear and poverty.

મોતીલાલ આદિવાસીઓને હક માટે જાગૃત કરે છે.

Motilal Tejavat awakens the Adivasis. He tells them that rather than live in fear, they should raise their heads for their rights. His words kindle self-respect and courage in the long-suppressed Adivasis.

જીવા, સૂરજી અને બાયજ અન્યાય સામે હામ ભીડે છે.

Jiva Kukas, Surji and other Adivasi figures take a stand against the British. Women like Bayaj too are ready to offer their kin for the cause. The poor Adivasis unite and raise their voice against injustice.

અંગ્રેજોના ગોળીબારમાં આશરે ૧૨૦૦ આદિવાસીઓ શહીદ થાય છે.

The British open fire on the unarmed Adivasis. In that terrible massacre about 1200 Adivasis attain a hero's death. Yet they give their lives fearlessly, heads held high - this is the sorrowful yet glorious part of the play.

વીરભૂમિ સ્મારક એ આદિવાસી શહીદોના બલિદાનની યાદ છે.

In memory of this sacrifice the Gujarat government raised the Virbhumi martyrs' memorial. The message of the play is clear - freedom was won with the blood of many unknown heroes; that sacrifice must never be forgotten.
